Yeah, I under-stand the temptation, Mate. I've been there my-self:
* Appy-Polly-Gollys if it gets "pulled" for "hot-linking"; But, I simply felt that I could not sleep in the same bed with my-self this eve were I to actually up-load an image of "Carrot-Top" to High-Street *.
{InMyWorstDavidMitchellImitation} * Don't get me wrong, I am mostly "pro-kink" (As the kids say these days) but one should have their limits.{InMyWorstDavidMitchellImitation}

You are not a-lone, Mate. I have never "gotten" these damned things, and am well convinced at this point that they are simply a bit of a joke that half of the populace is now in on.

Gotta just relax the eyes and it will suddenly 'pop'. Once you do it a few times it becomes quite easy.

I just force the issue and cross my eyes until I start seeing the blurred 3D images. They sharpen right up after that.

A soul? You pickin' and grinnin' with Banjo these days?
Yes, I am soulless, but I used to be binocular, and I can remember the general joy of optical illusions.
Someday I will allow them to peel off my ruined cornea and replace it with a new or artificial lens. At the moment they keep offering me bits of dead people, along with a high risk of rejection.

I can pretty easily get the three-dee effect, but these image appear inverted, to me. The Mr. Goatse's hole looks like Mt. Everest.

Yeah, you get that if you cross your eyes... it's really the wrong way to go about it. The trick is to look *through* the image... i.e. look far beyond it by relaxing your eyes - like staring off into space while the image is before you. Sorry, but I can't describe it any better than that.

Focus your eyes on something above your computer screen at about twice the distance. Your peripheral vision will show you that you are now seeing two overlapping images of your computer, you should also notice that where the two images overlap something odd is happening. Now comes the tricky part: Look directly at your screen while maintaining your long distance focus. Once you figure out how to do that viewing any such image will be easy.
If you're still having trouble, try the old 'floating sausage' trick. Look at something in the distance and hold your hands at eye level and point your two index fingers at each other. You should see two ghostly transparent fingers, bring them together slowly and you should see a solid 'sausage' floating between them.

I like how the classics can never die. Also, with that image, if you 'over' blend it severely truncates the dangly effect without otherwise spoiling the rest of the picture. So if he doesn't look excited, unslide the images one stop.
PS - love the animation. Where can I get more?

I have tried "turning my brain off" and "looking through." Both tend to bring on a bit of a head-ache.

The ideal way to view the magic eye pictures is to have the picture behind a reflective surface. A printed version behind glass, digital on a glossy screened monitor, etc. The trick is then to stare at your own reflection. The 3D picture will suddenly be right there in all its glory.
