Straight to the black ops guys.

I for one admire the attempt at budgetary manipulation.

This on top of the 750 Million rounds ordered by DHS.

I did a little further reading, and NOAA does actually have an enforcement mechanism in relation to fisheries or some such.  Falsifying "wild caught" on your farm raised salmon....only if ya' gansta.

St. Pete. is the only city that's not receiving 100 or more paper targets to assist with training of agency issued sidearms.

Probably because they don't offer paper targets in barn door size.

Paul Watson at InfoWars points out the new request lists rounds of all types including buckshot, slugs, and .357 magnum rounds, a bullet renowned for its immense "stopping power".

Um... oh never mind.

Checkpoint booths, riot gear, millions or rounds of ammunition?  Looks as though they are preparing for Obama's second term.

And what the fuck is a government agency doing purchasing .357? What agency specifies that any more?

Forestry services (yes they have enforcement agents), game wardens, any LEO who is more likely to encounter a bear than a gangbanger.....

Yeah, fuck this noise.  I'm going shopping this weekend.  My first AR, a marine finish shotgun, an SP101 wheelgun and a Glock 32 at the very least.  Also going to start stocking up on .41 Magnum rounds.

I recommend the Mossberg 590.  I run mine hard as hell at matches and I frequently do better than folks running autoloaders and game guns.....

I think it is the 500 JIC series that I will be going for.  Aptly named for these articles that have been popping up.

Wait, didn't realize that was a pistol grip.  OK, 590 then.

And Scotty, I don't think that the 500JIC has the same finish as the Mariner. I loved the 500 Mariner for being short, durable and easy to keep looking good. No more plain steel springs that rust out when you least expect it. I'm trying to trade back from the guy I sold mine to.

Those Mossbergs look sweet. I have never enjoyed synthetic stocks, but I see that some models can swap out the plastic for walnut. Sad as it is, it's almost time to retire the old Winchester and "step up to an autoloader" ... even if it means retiring the duckload for something more lethal.

I've had a stainless steel model 500 since the late eighties.  I like shooting the Remington model 870 better but you can't beat the Mossburg finish for rust resistance.

Sadly, these days in most backwoods of California the forestry and game cops are more likely to encounter an agitated gangbanger then a bear. And with the money at stake in poaching fish, everyone is armed out on the wide placid sea

The heart of the JIC™ package is the venerable 12 gauge Mossberg® 500® Pump-Action. Fitted with a compact 18-1/2” barrel and rugged synthetic pistol grip and forearm, it’s offered in your choice of the blued Cruiser® model, the Mariner®, or the Sandstorm™ featuring our proprietary Marinecote™ finish for employment in or around harsh marine environments.

Seems like it.  I just don't like the pistol grip.  The 590 is too long for creeping around in the house I'd wager and the tube set would be nice to have if it would fit a tactical version with a collapsible stock.

Anyone got any recommendations on AR's?  There is a local store here that also happens to be a manufacturer and they have a base model .223 for $699.  I doubt I will be using the thing much at all.  Most likely sticking it in the closet all locked up just in case all hell were to ever break loose.  Hell, at that price I am considering buying a few and if they do reinstate the assault ban selling a couple afterwards if they once again leave private sales intact.  Seems like it might be a good investment.

On the AR, who is the store/manufacturer?

More than brand, look at design.  A 16 inch barrel with a min-length gas system is preferable for a carbine.  I can put rounds on target out to 300 yards all day with mine, using iron sights.  A standard gas system increases recoil & wear.  An AR can reach further, but now you are talking longer barrel, optics, and a significant increase in price.

$699 is a pretty good price.....

Sent you a PM.  I know my way around handguns pretty well but have never ventured into rifle territory before.  If you have any more tips I would greatly appreciate them in the PM.

Great, the only pic I saw of the JIC version was all black parkerizing, not the gray Marinecoat that I remember. Jump on that then. You can get folding or collapsing stocks anywhere for less than $100. I like the top folders myself.

For ARs I suggest building your own lower setup. It takes about an hour and a half to do it the first time, 30 minutes after that. You can set it up with the trigger you want, whatever buttstock and grip fits you and then you hang on top of it whatever upper package fits your needs. Because you can buy everything but the stripped lower (About $100 + paperwork) without an FFL, you can save significant money. I typically save about $200 for an equivalent package. I'm sure the builder has to pay for assemblers and tracking and marketing and all that, and you still end up with something you want to start changing parts in anyway. You don't need any special tools unless you are building uppers.

I just don't like the pistol grip.

I've had a Mariner for about 10 years, and the only trouble I've had with it was shell expansion on 3" rounds occasionally welding the ejection.   Runs the 2 3/4s like butter though.

I added a swing stock.  A pistol grip is fine for actual in-home defense, but I like to shoot mine occasionally without being masochistic.  That and being able to actually aim it :)

I'm ashamed to take a picture of it, I just looked at it and it's filthy.
