This could be in our future.

A senior advisor to the Chinese government has called for an attack on the Japanese bond market to precipitate a funding crisis and bring the country to its knees, unless Tokyo reverses its decision to nationalise the disputed Senkaku/Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea.

Tell me you couldn't see the same scenario develop if we get into a pissing match over Taiwan or trade.  I doubt they could bring down our economy, but they could put a hurting on us.

We are going to have to choose between protecting a long-term ally who we culturally agree with and a country we find a lot wrong with but happens to have us by the financial short hairs. This should be fun to watch, but I wish I had a seat a little further from the action.

Nah, they aren't dumb enough to bite the hand that feeds them.

This is just a dick size contest and will all blow over soon enough, there is just too much money at stake for both of them.

Look at it this way, if they fuck with the economies of us or the nips and our consumers can't afford the latest iPhone then who are the Chinese gonna sell to, Greece?  Mexico?

I agree with Em that this is a pissing contest, but Japan deserves to be shit on.  They've never apologized for, or made restitution for, any of the crap they did during WWII.  It was a mistake to exonerate the emperor and his family of war crimes, and excuse the Japanese from guilt and restitution payments because of the nuclear bombings.  Hirohito and the senior members of the Imperial Family should have been publicly flogged to death!

Regardless, not long until Amerika is every bit, if not more, vulnerable.

BTW:  Japanese wartime conduct was an order of magnitude more reprehensible than the Deutschlanders.  No sympathy here after seeing what they did to Koreans, Filipinos,  Chinese and POWs.

Still, it's fun to watch the Chinese weep and moan about the subjugation of Nanking, then dismiss with a wave the entire Cultural Revolution.
