What's in a name? The question should be, what name's in the list?
I never knew about this.
Like a handful of other countries, including Germany and Denmark, Iceland has official rules about what a baby can be named.

It's the same in Japan, and one of the perks of being a foreign resident is being able to give your children a name that's not on the list provided it's written in katakana. That's カタカナ to you, pal.

I have mixed feelings about an official name registry. On the one hand it would save children from being saddled with stupid names guaranteed to hold them back in life. On the other hand, allowing ghetto trash whores to give their crack baby bastards absurd names makes it possible to avoid hiring ghetto trash that's been irreparably damaged by a shitty upbringing
