As to the death penalty in this case, why didn't the prosecuter just hold back one of the killings - the one for which he had the most evidence - and choose to charge him with that *after* he's already been convicted and received life in prison for the other killings? Then he could ask for the death penalty for the remaining charge. Bit of a nasty trick, but it does the job.

Death penalty costs too much, it's fucking pointless to spend $400m to kill someone when we can just throw him in the hole for 30 years and accomplish the same thing for less than $500k
