A hundred bucks for a lousy half-gig? That's not even worth changing the title to "these," but I do think her plexi reliquary is kinda neat.

That was my thought.  I think that's a rather old price that they never updated to keep up with the market.

I think you're forgetting that it's Maria!  How much is it worth to keep the demons out of your data?

BTW, I still find it amazing after all these years how fast the price of storage drops.  half a gig for a hundred bucks still seems kind of amazing to me.  Get off my USB-powered lawn.

I was on the design team for the original IBM PC 5150... 16KB RAM (64KB when fully loaded) and *zero* storage (unless you count the cassette tape)...  and we were amazed back then.

Now I've got a terabyte of mirrored WiFi-LAN storage and a WiFi laptop with 4GB RAM... and I bought the storage controller (Linksys NSLU-2 - a wonderful little unit), twin drives, laptop and all the memory for less $$ than the original retail price of that old IBM PC 5150.

That's amazing.

25 years = 90% price drop. This must be what Bush means about "no inflation."

Back when Jesus had short hair, Balmer and Butthead were nobodies and, wait a fucking second. Don't you guys all live on Mt Olympus or something, with moon landing astronuts and Barbara Eden for neighbors? Pre stock option, n'all but I know you guys were comfortably charmed for life and shit, young enough to enjoy it. The soul of the new machine actually rewarded a non-asshole. That's seriously sweet, sailor.

So ok, you've confessed this much. How'd you acquire the crutches?

Thanks.. I'm certainly not on "Mount Olympus", but I am comfortably settled, thank you.  In fact, a wee bit more comfortable of late... you see, the entire time I worked at IBM I spent 15% of my salary on acquiring IBM stock, at considerable corporate discount.  After 15 years I ended up with... well, let's just say I ended up with a *hell of a lot* of IBM stock, and given several subsequent splits and the sizeable discount, my effective purchase price could best be described as "peanuts".  I just recently sold the lot for a little over $119/share.  Life is good.

Long [and very painful] story, best told with a beer in my hand, which, sadly I don't happen to have just now.
