Despite what the reporter thinks, they will be given away. This has been going on for far longer than I've been over here. Yes, the melons are very good, but the high price is for a) the first melons of the season, and b) the gratitude you feel when someone gives you a $7,500 melon just because you're so special to them. And no, neither point makes much sense at all. You have to be Japanese to understand.

Being as I am allergic, I never experience melons at all. Used to love them, but not so much anymore. Unless I am fancying a trip to the hospital.
