Routine abortions, infanticide, and suicides of pregnant women are the result of a complete breakdown of the culture. Because the social safety net has been destroyed by Culture Warriors, pregnancy has become a catastrophic event comparable to developing cancer for many women.
Between the necessity for both parties in a relationship to hold down jobs, lack of available childcare or flexible work schedules, and a society that in general acts as if raising children is just another expensive hobby, many pregnancies are terminated because the prospect of having a child is too overwhelming to deal with.
The only sane methods of reducing abortion and infanticide are insuring access to contraception for all including teenagers, and creating a society which is supportive of people who do spawn. This includes paying people living wages so that pregnancy isn’t a financial disaster. It also would mean making low cost childcare available, seeing to it that all children have access to food, shelter, healthcare, providing a decent educational system, and otherwise as a society making sure that families are taken care of. As it stands now, if you have children you’re on your own!
Edit: I should describe what's happened to our culture as a co-opting by corporate interests, not as a complete breakdown. Corporations don't care if families have the income and resources to raise children. Recognizing that they don't have the resources and social supports needed to raise children properly, intelligent people are refusing to spawn or severely limiting their reproduction.

OK, so we pay people a wages when they have babies and we give them all sorts of bennies like childcare, etc... and what we'll end up with is a huge population explosion of the otherwise unemployable (or lazy) women, and no men in the family because they're a drag on the finances.
Oh, wait...that's our current welfare system.

Research proves that couples usually have as many children as they need to have in the culture they are in. Farmers tend to have more children, city dwellers need to have less. Forcing others to have the children YOU think you need for cannon-fodder or to allay your fears of drowning in a brown demographic sea is an action worthy of soviets and nazis. Uncle Adolph and Uncle Joe must be SO proud of you!

fnord, you are clueless. With the exception of living wage, society currently supplies everything on your demand list. The only thing standing between access to contraception, abortion, and food, shelter, healthcare, and an education for their children are fucked up people who refuse to access the help available to them. As for living wage, how about people wait to have kids when they can afford them?
