Some musical performances are so awful they wind up as classics. This performance has lots of special effects, backup dancers, backup vocalists, and high energy. All of this makes for an incredible train wreck.

Incredible. She actually beat out Britney's mesmerizing performance a few short weeks ago. Thank goodness she didn't ruin any Carly Simon songs. The whole show was ostensibly an infomercial, just marginally better than those for the Rat Pack, Johnny Carson, or "The Best of Carol Burnett." I suppose this is all we have to look forward to for the next three months, at least.

I don't really keep up with current pop music any more...I seem to've reached that age where all the new stuff just sounds the same. And irritating. And unbearably inane. Yes, yes, I know; get off my lawn, etc.
But, um, is this level of "talent" the norm amongst pop stars nowadays? I've heard of Fergie so I know she's a pretty big deal. When did the ability to sing become irrelevant to qualify for pop stardom? Don't singers have to be able to sing any more?

Wait a minute, George, when in the past 35 years did singing ability have to do with pop music stardom? I thought Fergie got to where she is by peeing herself onstage. Which I thought was a pretty good act given the state of affairs in the music industry.
