Right - I've not actually been to Baltimore in some years now, and simply threw up the title upon realizing that you hungry freaks (Daddy) would be going for my jugular were I not to include (How-Ever inappropriate it may be) a hyper-link:  Zappa For Low Budget Orchestra.

So, that out of the way:  My new power supply arrived this evening, and - After a few more cups of Kenyan bean, glasses of Scotch, and illicit indulgences (Don't judge me - Don't judge me) - I'll be either up-grading or totally fucking (And, not in the good way) my system.  Once I've (Hope-Fully, at least) the hard-ware installed, my intent is to "up-grade" from Vista to an old copy of XP; How-Ever, Vista having driven me to the point where I don't even want to hear the slightest mention of micro-limp-dick these days, I was hoping to load the new drive as a dual-boot, and - With hope - eventually run a (At least reasonably) stable version of Linux full-time.

A brief look around the internets has all ready ruled out Red Hat due to cost ($80 per year for licensing on a damned OS - Are they fucking serious?).  Now, I realize full-well that I'm asking for quite a bit here; How-Ever, my preferences would be:

1)  If not straight-out "free-ware;" Preferably no more than $50 for a "one-shot" licensing fee.
2)  I've forgotten more about DOS than I ever knew at this point (Yeah, I know what I said - Don't try to pull that whole "Logic" shit on me); So, I'm needing an OS which is at least pseudo-adaptable for the simpleton which I've - Apparently - become over the years (Hey, it's been a hard life, Man - Better luck next go-around, eh?).
3)  I can not tolerate any more fucking hassles attempting to run my damned third party soft-ware (Getting Agent Forte to actually fucking work would be rather nice as well; But, I don't really want to "push my luck" here)!  I've quite a bit loaded; How-Ever, those to which I most frequently turn:  WinAmp (Which runs constantly {Obviously - You know me:  I'm "all about" the tunage}),  FreeRip, Skype, Paint.Net (Thanks for that little recommendation, Orangina), and WinRAR (If need be, I could down-grade to a "free-ware" extractor; How-Ever, I'd - Obviously - prefer not to).
4)  And, to really "push my luck:" I was thinking that it'd be rather nice were my hard-ware to run with-out too much of a hassle:  HP Desk-jet F380, Logitech Z-10 Speakers, Logitech USB head-set, Logitech Pro-9000 Web-Cam/Digital Camera, a Diamond Viper ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT PCIE 512MB GDDR3 video card, and Antec hard-drive cooling system.

My system is an HP m8100n running 64-bit AMD and dual-cores (Approximately 1.5 GB each).

Any and all responses welcome (If not subject to a rather sarcastic response).

Take your best shot.

Install XP first, then boot from this...

Assuming it sees all your peripherals on the first shot - and it should - install it and you're in business. For free. The rubbish eating goats on this site will insist Ubuntu's ghey but ignore them.

The version which you recommend here seems quite the departure from the versions of Ubuntu which I've been researching (And, which, had - As well - About turned me off from this entire "Screw you guys;  I'm "going linux" idea but a day ago.  I've actually "stream-lined" Vista to a degree where it's rather manageable, and no longer runs my cores "hot" for four minutes straight (Any Vista victims needing a bit of assistance in this area are free to contact me for a bit of advice).

I'm actually rather curious as to where Service Pack 1 is going to take this beast; So, I'm simply going to attempt running the "Disc Wizard" soft-ware which SeaGate provided with my new drive; And, installing Kubuntu a-top the Vista OS/Virus.

Any way, I'm about ready to roll a smoke, shut-down, allow my system to cool a bit, and "get into" this (Replacing the power supply is my "biggest fear" here). So, should I suddenly disappear from the e-face of the internets, chances are that I've totally fucked my-self (Speaking of which, I'm adding your phone number to my "Where the fuck do I turn now that I've seemingly fucked every-thing" list {FYI:  You fall some-where betwixt my brother and the suicide "hot-line"}).

Wish me luck, Guys - Here goes "fuck-all."

I use Mandriva.  Their releases can vary in quality, but the latest (2008) is getting good reviews (haven't personally tried it yet).  If you run into problems, look in the Errata first for a solution before resorting to Google.

The One CD (iso file) is a live CD you can boot and see if your hardware works, then install.  The Powerpack edition will set you back 49-69 Euros, but includes legally-licensed add-ons for DVD, MP3, etc.  You can also add these capabilities to the One version (with questionable legality) via the Penguin Liberation Front.

The headset, camera, and especially the speakers, look like they may not be completely supported yet.  Don't know about the video, try it and see what happens.

Ubuntu/Kubuntu and Fedora are resonable choices, too.

Applications (KDE-biased, not as familiar with GNOME):
WinAmp -> Amarok or Banshee
FreeRip -> K3b, Sound-Juicer, Grip, Konqueror (enter audiocd:/ in the address bar)
Skype -> Skype
Paint.net -> GIMP (yeah, a PITA to learn, GIMPShop has a more Photoshop-like interface if you're into that), Krita, Inkscape (vector-based)
WinRAR -> Konqueror (built-in support for archives), Ark, many other possibilities

Yeah, I don't need any more "issues" (I've had more then my share of late).

Kubuntu is looking like the safest bet here.  Apparently, Vita Home Premuim users can just go fuck them-selves as far as Microsoft is concerned.

Woo-Hoo - New toy!  Thanks for that one, Mate.  I'll have to play around with it a bit once (If) I get things running.  I ran into a bit of a problem right "out of the gate."  Despite step 3-1 of the installation instructions clearly stating:  "4-Pin 12V connector used for mother-board only," the damned power supply doesn't damned well have one.  There are two 6-pin 12 volt connectors; But, they're not going to do me any good.  So, until I can speak to some-body at Ultra come Monday, I've got the stock 300 watt supply running again from out-side of the "box."
