The IOC doesn't give a fuck, crooked old foreign assholes but, it's hard to ignore Stephen Fry, even if you are Prime Minister.

Unfortunately, it's just putting a bunch of innocent British athletes in the middle of this, most of whom, are probably heterosexual.

I don't approve of governments pulling their teams and hurting athletes who have trained for years for their moment in the sun (even if most of these athletes are heterosexual!).  I like the idea of pressuring the sponsors, by telling them you won't buy their products and telling the network with broadcast rights you won’t watch the games.  Also make it known to the IOC and the bodies that sponsor athletes you won't buy Olympic clothing/tschotskes or products with Olympic logos and tie-ins.  Another avenue I haven't seen explored is pressuring lawmakers to remove the tax deductions corporations get for underwriting the games.  Loss of tax exemptions and the evaporation of public goodwill for being a sponsor will dry up funding for the games faster than anything else and light a fire under the IOC.

Still doesn't justify the money spent for the "prestige" of hosting the farce games.

I have no problem with amateur athletes, but the Olympics are strictly from commercial (cue Zappa sound bite, from "Nanook Rubs It") and should not be subsidized by any government.


*The strikes caused me to stop following baseball until the Mark McGuire/Sammy Sosa home run battle...and that turned out to be a fuckhole story as well.
