You know the last thing goes through a bug's mind when it hits the windshield?

"The body was found, stuck to the front right of the train, out of the driver's vision," an SNCF spokesman said, adding that an incident of this kind was "relatively rare".
Relatively?

Imagine the death toll if we ever get bullet trains in the US.

Don't EVEN go there. That would be another chapter of robogeddon.
No, I was just thinking about all the people on our country that are too fucking stupid to get out of the way of a speeding train. Even if we did them as monorails, I'm sure we'd still have a few fatalities a month.

Indeed, it would provide some desirable social darwinism. And the train doesn't even need to be speeding. Ever since light rail was built in Denver, a ongoing stream of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists alike have thought they can beat the train. They always seem to think the train will slow down for them.

So far I've managed to only hit drunks, animals, an empty truck, and assorted junk delinquents put on the tracks. Drunks don't even try to get out of the way. The last one it took over 500 feet to stop from 23 MPH using full dynamic, and emergency air brakes. He lived, with a broken hip. Trains pretty much don't slow down until after the impact. The ones who think they can beat the train, usually do. Stupid chance to take just to save a few minutes. I'm not surprised at hitting the bicyclist without seeing him or that he was stuck to the front end. I am surprised the noise of the impact wasn't noticed.
