Self-styled intellectuals busted.
On April Fool's day, NPR had an extremely simple joke that turned out to be an incredibly effective demonstration of how many commenters on Facebook actually read the articles they comment on

NPR is Intellectually Based? Could of fooled me. Of course if you think an Intellectual has the mental capacity of a 10 year old, you are right.

I said "self-styled" intellectuals. NPR, with its BBC news, liberal talk, and inane jazz interludes pretends to appeal to the intelligent listener. The same ones who claim to only watch PBS on TV, but are secretly Jersey Shore junkies.

Ok, I see it now. You really are a troll, because nobody could be as stupid as you pretend to be and still spell their words correctly.

Well now, Dusty is more liberal than you and he agrees with me. Come on, tell the truth, you like to pretend you listen to NPR too, don't you? I actually like to listen to the Diane Rehm show while driving to work. Helps me keep track of left wing agenda.

It's an article about a face book post by NPR, ergo a story about facebook comments. This topic actually has nothing to do with conservative vs. liberal or anyone self-styling themselves as an intellectual. Y'all fell for the more complex portion of the joke, you know the part where someone tries to twist the topic into something it's not...

It's hard to believe any Facebooker would friend NPR unless they were a fan of the programming.

Actually I found out about that little gag because a friend of mine forwarded it to me, it had been forwarded to him. Because it's funny.
Neither I nor my buddy actually use Facebook.
And NPR does have some good articles just as Fox news does sometimes also.

Nope, I work out of my house, so I don't listen to the radio anymore. But when I did have a commute, it was Morning Edition on the way to work and All Things Considered on the way home. I was driving from my hotel to my contract job in Baton Rouge, LA, and listening to Morning Edition on 09/11, when they broke the first plane hitting the World Trade Tower.

Public broadcasting attracted some talent early on but deserved budgetary death less than 20 years later, long after it married its underwriters and assaulted listeners with non-stop non-profit fund flogging frenzy.
My Massachusetts town will shutter its public library forever July 1, a first in the Commonwealth. Fuck PBS/NPR.

And PBS is broadcasting ads from corporations that sell things people can't buy. Feh!

Our Library has basically turned into a public funded internet shop for the poor folks and it actually seems like a good thing.

PBS was great before we had cable.
Now Doctor Who is on BBC America, along with almost all other BBC programming, better science and news channels are available on Cable or Streaming. Even Fox reviving Cosmos is missing the boat (and they are also rebroadcasting on the National Geo cable channel). I'm watching a series on Netflix right now called "How the Universe Works", narrated by Mike Rowe, that's way better than the new Cosmos. The news is more diversified; you can either find the channel that slants it your particular way, including not at all, or listen to what other Countries think about our news. I still like MacNeil/Lehrer but even they don't seem to be as unbiased as they used to.

I finally dropped NPR/PBS when they were beating the drums (for a second time) to invade Iraq. Fuckin' Cokie Roberts. Within a year she and her husband were backtracking on their website. I sent a rather pointed little missive about their responsibility for Iraqi & US deaths. Funnily enough, they didn't reply.
