He was a pleasant person. Hyper, but pleasant. Sad stuff.

I refuse to believe he killed himself. Until proven otherwise, I choose to believe his death was the result of an autoerotic asphyxia misadventure.

Gee whiz, will you choose to share any of your other celebrity sex fantasies with us?
He was one of the great comic geniuses of his time, I'm sad he's gone and even sadder he's gone in such a way.
What do you think he used for a noose? A rope, a cravat?

Never will understand why Williams committed to so many of those script stinkers, like Dead Poets. Carpe diem, dude.

It's not that I fantasize about him or other male actors doing such a thing. It's that I don't see sex, even in its kinkier varieties as something to be ashamed of. Most Americans see death via sexual misadventure as something shameful which needs to be covered up at any cost, even if it means claiming the death was a suicide. There have been many cases of death via sexual misadventure being labeled suicide, cardiac arrest, drug overdose, or unknown causes.

See now Fnord this is where you and I completely diverge in thought. When I think of death by sexual misadventure it means angry spouse interruption, heart attack at the moment of glory or simply tripping whilst trying to remove one's under-garments in a hurry. You on the other hand immediately think of trapeze, Great Dane and John Deere tractor situations which would never occur to the rest of us in our wildest dreams (or nightmares as we would know them).
Dude was a talented yet tortured soul who sadly was selfish enough to hang himself, end of story. Forever and ever. Amen.

My sister knew him at Julliard in the 1070s. She reports that he often showed up at her door at any and all hours, and would just raid the refrigerator. He would then go on a tear for a while, get everyone laughing so hard they could hardly take it, and then he would just walk out. Apparently, he had a circuit of apartments he would visit, doing pretty much the same thing in each. She also said she knew from the time she met him that he was going to be a huge success.

Beats getting humiliated at the comedy clubs. Test your act out on civilians who are probably stoned anyway.

You've probably already heard this, but he had just been told he had Parkinson's disease. My grandmother died of Parkinson's...eventually. When I heard that I understood why he'd killed himself.

Wasn't what he did but how. On a list of awful ways to go, hanging with a belt is among the slow and painful worst.
Suicide's a choice. How it happens matters, at least to me.

Not long before he died, I had listened to a podcast in which the early symptoms of Parkinson's was discussed. One doctor related that depression in otherwise well adjusted individuals is an early symptom. As in they do not yet know they have the disease but seek help for depression and are then diagnosed with Parkinson's. Kind of a depression double whammy.

I don't know why. If nothing else it takes all the work out of masturbation.

Suicide is definitely a choice but it shouldn't come as a surprise to the loved ones. Once you involve people in your life decisions of this magnitude should be shared simply out of consideration and manners.

I'm educated guessing it was a calculated fuck you and not a lot different than Hunter Thompson's suicide.
If there is death with dignity, it's entirely outside my experience but hanging and eating a gun are just ugly.

Death with dignity is possible, but it requires a bit of intention to make it happen. Partner™ had a calm and peaceful transition event at home, surrounded by people who loved him. To make this happen, you have to state your care wishes in advance and have a trusted spouse, offspring, or caregiver who will see to it your wishes are respected. If not, you can expect to be hooked up to machines at the end of your life and suffer a long, horrible, and painful demise.

Williams apparently didn't have one of those.
