No one's committing journalism today, or anymore, or the day's not over yet.
The squib below was writ by the author of Boardwalk Empire, latter defiled by Hollyweird, and speaks to every part of the US northeast I've called home.

Certainly a lack of vision and a swimming pool of graft...

At one time Atlantic City had a reputation as a place for closeted gay men to go to for sleazy sex with strangers, far from the prying eyes of family and co-workers. For a single man to say he vacationed or spent a holiday weekend in Atlantic City was an admission of being gay, so of course trips to Atlantic City were always kept secret.

Quick question, fnord. Was there such a thing as uncloseted homo prior to 1970? I attended an all boys boarding school when homo was just an insult and not quite real.

Nothing funnier than seeing a dude with a sex change back then. They all looked like Alice Cooper with Farrah Fawcett's hair.

Kids see the world they expect, extrapolating from their normal, and rarely the reality in front of them. I'd occasionally ditch class and hide in the bathroom, a hole in the floor, on the train to school, midtown NYC on a 35 cent fare. I wandered all over but dismissed Greenwich Village as a bohemian freak show. Still is, isn't it?

I can't speak for the people who just hang around Washington Square, but a Condo can run you anywhere from half a million to several million depending on (everybody now) location, location, location.

I was thinking that the other alternative would be to double down on the Sin City angle now that Vegas is all family friendly and shit.
Make it another Amsterdam.
Legalize weed, legalize prostitution and confine it all to the city limits. You are within a days drive of 60% of the US population, especially amongst all of those uptight New Englanders, having a place to get away and let loose would be a fine idea. Allow about 100 "coffee shops" and some health inspected houses and let the money pour in. Atlantic city is small enough that bikes and cabs will get you around when you are stoned and it's not like weed is hard to find just down the road in NYC, Philly or Baltimore.
Nobody's talking about it, but Colorado is finally getting back a lot of the ski traffic it lost over the last decade and we all know why. Why not get some of that filthy lucre?
It's not like they have a sterling reputation to ruin...
