Steam em like clams till they open. Choad must have some knowledge, he lives closest to the water of all of us.

Assuming they're well rinsed or better, allowed to soak/excrete in a pot of sea water, steam them until their shells open. Even simpler, drop them on a hot grill until they open up and add bread crumbs, citrus and/or hotsauce. Or just slurp them hot out of the shell. Same holds for soft shell clams and cherry stone quahogs.

Steam them and portabellas in fish broth. Add some lemon. Cook some rice in remaining fish broth.

But behind the chalet
My holiday's complete
And I feel like William Tell
Maid Marian on her tiptoed feet
Pulling mussels from a shell

Thank You, I was feeling a bit silly for posting this but your little verse made me very happy and I'll likely be singing it all weekend...

With a lot of celery and a small amount of garlic. Toss the celery and serve the mussels in the broth with french bread on the side.
