High winds, low visibility, rotten roads and 2 feet of snow tonight and Tuesday morning, conditions coastal New England manages infrequently and never well. A snizzle cherry on top, a snow/drizzle ice sheet, is forecast Friday. Stay tooned.

Hi choad--stay safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!etc.
Here is handy info for those of you in the Northeast. Scroll down for your school closings and flight info.
Hope you are stocked up on mixers. It's my experience that one almost never runs out of booze during natural disasters, but mixers are another matter entirely. Never mind the goddamned bread and milk.
P.S. San Antonio's projected high is mid-70s. The sky is so blue and bright. Neener neener.

I'm sure it made perfect sense to the original European inhabitants of New England to live there.
Less sure why each subsequent generation stays there though.

Power winked out so I bundled up and stalked around outside. We have our two feet so it can stop any time now. Tried to check the beach and seawall across the street but snow's drifted there to 4 feet. Not blowing too hard but no telling when the power will croak for good.

That is a good bit of snow for our coast there. Ho was the wind, any sustained speeds?

Well that's it, it is officially record breaking: We got more snow for that particular date, Jan 26th, and in that particular spot than any on other particular Jan 26th at that particular spot in reliable recorded history (last 50 years or so).
That being said I also set a world record for the loudest belch by a 50 year old white male sitting in this particular spot at that particular date in recorded history; I AM LEGEND!

Power has stalled here for most the past 5 hours, winds have picked up, gusting to 50mph and forecasts still report another 12 hours of this shit. I typed the same sentence twice, so this is a quick post.

Yep, thanks. Storm's passed and only ones still crying in their luke warm beer are Johnny Rotten's poor Nantucket neighbors. The rich ones aren't due back until July and they all have generators in case the A/C dies. Expect to hear the NYT broadcast their heartbreaking, and totally fabricated distress. Yeah, I know, that's not fair but still fun to write.
Both my exits are three feet off the ground and drifted snow bound. I took photos on my walk about early this morning but they're all indecipherable shades of off white.

First order of business following my frequent dislocations as a kid was mastering the local patois. Nail that sticks out gets hammered down, and playing with language was my idea of fun. I was profanity proficient in 3 languages by 6. Except that didn't help much. The level of toxic assholiness this place bequeathed me translates nowhere else, so for good or ill, yes, this is home.

I see you guys did get a little too, I reckon I'll have to post a few pict's of what we got out here in Podunk. Actually I was mildly impressed, it wasn't a blizzard by any measure but definitely a respectable storm. Naturally every Jimmy-John was out with his tractor or truck w/plow soon as the first flake touched down but that is what passes for winter-time entertainment out here in the bogs. I think I had three different neighbors plow my drive just to put reason to the cost of their toys.
Still don't see why they shut the state down though, this was nothing more than your standard monthly blow by high-plains standards. Everyone all rushing off to the grocery like it was the end of the world or something; although Georgie was right and I did run short of mixers.

Gospel truth, and why most places between Worcester and Sacramento are equipped to handle it. City folk along the coast are complacent pussies, especially here and points south blessed with the Gulf Stream and an ocean 10 degrees warmer than 15 miles north. Count your blessings. These motorists rival the world's worst.

It pains my heart to see one of the prime states of the American Revolution use the term "Illegal Handgun".
An illegal gun in Mass should be one that you've purchased, but never fired.

The Last Ice Age hit in a matter of a week or so. Mammoths found frozen with flowers in their mouth, etc. in the tundra. Why people think weather changes are always gradual is beyond me.
Good luck Nanuk. Hope you have the local Mormons staked out, remember their larders!

Yikes that is right. I have been known to miss the boat on occasion and I can be pretty well sure I will miss the boat again. In more ways than one. And with my luck in driving snow.. Better reign it in. All that glitters is not gold.

Yeah, well, that sucked. Power winked out around 8am so I said fuckit, larded up the blankets and went back to sleep. Power's back, sun's out, sort of, but the wind's pitching a bitch, gusting to- let's say lots. Intermittent white out.
Seriously, that's enough of this shit. If I had an ice cutter, I'd sail south and look up J_R.

Two flat tires today had to be changed out in the freezing bluster. One pierced by a bolt (9/16" wood bolt) the other apparently just said "fuck it all" and let go.
Luckily I have rolling spares, bald as fuck but will do for now and that the boy had the car and so his young ass is out in the single digit chill changing tires.

3 degrees here today. So cold that every one of our 'modern' cars had their tire pressure warning lamps go on. Around I went with my air canister (from my old car racing days) to fill them all up... most were down about 4-5 pounds. Of course, come warmer weather they'll be then over pressurized... sigh...
