A long time cruel irregular, who doesn't post near enough anymore, writes to say Meg Kelso's blog is reporting she died late last month. Say what you will but Meg was a fun and formidable combatant.

Show some respect, ok?

Condolences to her family.

I'll never forget when she started creating blogs in my name and my wife's name out of anger at Cruel message board members fucking with her. (She thought I was leading them, but I was unaware of the shenanigans.)

When I was showing my wife the information available on the person doing this to us, this was the photo of Meg:

The look of terror on my wife's face was almost enough to be worth the irritation of what Meg was doing.

The true miscreants in that you-can't-un-see-it moment haven't spoke up yet.

I tried to explain to her that when she saw "rogers" in her site counter, it was just my Canadian service provider, not the Rogers. But she was crazed and thought I was pulling a fast one on your behalf.

Besides Meg's obvious contribution to our merry band of ne'er-do-wells, it's interesting to reflect on what she leaves behind. There is some exceptionally cringeworthy shit in her social media for her descendants to sift through for years to come. Sort of symbolizes Cruel in a special way, really.

What's another no-contact order or three?

First thing anyone learned when they arrived at cruel.com, if they were alert and halfway sober, was rcade launched the site to exorcise the memory of a doomed profession and a rotten first marriage, not necessarily in that order.

Had I paid any attention at all, I'd have noticed my own rotten first marriage was a listed columnist on drudge.com, but I totally spaced it. I wanted to forget. Still do, to this day.

Rcade, however, has a twisted affinity for traumatised misanthropes and that fact alone kept cruel volatile, sometimes combative and always interesting.

COME BACK ALL YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS except one.

Am I misremembering, or did The Late She have a huge falling-out with one or more of her children, to the point they weren't speaking to or having anything to do with her?

Not at all. She obtained credit cards in a son's name and ruined his credit rating. There were the famous pornographic pictures of her grandson, which are probably still being traded among pedophiles to this day. She spent her last months bouncing between jail, flophouses, , homeless shelters, hospitals, mental wards, and an abusive relationship. If her children had truly cared about her, she would have had a stable living situation.

Was she the spaghetti sauce girl or was that another crazy? I did love the spaghetti sauce pic!

Hi George.

I still think the day James II disappeared is the day the music died. I loved reading his craziness. I truly believe it wasn't an act. He was balls to the walls crazy.

If you search "Emily Strange" you will likely find hits for a retail line of tweeny pseudo-goth merchandise (though I have no idea if it is still in business).  "Our" ES was a kid who either couldn't express herself coherently in text or maybe just had no original thoughts in her head at all.  I admit, she provoked me into replying to her wittering posts; I found her very tiresome.

James didn't make the jump. He'd worked for years, he said, for a comic book publisher and retreated to a gummint gumby job for the sake of kid and pension. Far as I know, James never saddled up for any of cruel's goofy shenanigans and often seemed the sanest one there. Cliff Claven with an education and a low outrage threshold. HAW, HAW, HAW!

What a bummer.  That's not the story I envisioned. I had him storming the gates of the White House with AR-15s in hand screaming like Scarface at the Secret Service. His homicidal humor scared me so much I wouldn't post anything negative about him. I didn't want to wake up with him standing over my kid's crib haw, haw haw'ing hysterically with a giant knife in his hand.

I have talked to her recently, and she is very intelligent, witty and all the rest.  Roleplaying has it's place in a situation like Cruel/HS.

I still miss the guy, despite his apparent distaste for correct punctuation.
