This won't affect the service sector, like tourism, so I look forward to seeing Germany ask for a bailout from Greece in the future.

and the lawyers will do well also.

All that being said there is an upward trend in Craftsmen once again, people are oddly happy to pay top dollar for something hand-made.

First they took the assembly line, then they took the warehouse jobs and now kiss one of the last job fields for the masses good bye.

Oh lawyers could easily be replaced by algorithms that could do the job much better. Not hard to program more efficiency into extracting value from clients.

Recently I was a fly on the wall at a corporate campus for lawyers. The amount of energy expended on coaching the junior lawyers to still feel like they were caring humans while maximising returns was remarkable.

Uh oh,

It is not all bad news, though. The take over of machines will create new jobs, the report authors claim, as humans will be needed to maintain the machines and to make sure that they work in an optimal environment.

So the future is not to be all sexy sexbots everywhere? It looks like we will be servicing the machines instead. Damn. That's cold.

I own one of these--an S60; just got it in January--and they do have a very nice set of sensors that help you park with by booping at you if you get too close to something in the front or the rear.  (There's also a nice set of side-sensors as well that help you safely change lanes.)
There is also a feature which is supposed to automatically brake in slow-moving traffic (like city snail-driving or a traffic jam) if you are about to roll into the bumper directly in front of you.  Again, in slow-moving traffic.  And I would never be idiot enough to try to test that feature on my car for shits and giggles.  And I would never x10 million be stupid enough to try it with a pedestrian.

People.  Gah.

Never heard the radio show.  Had all the albums.  Have the 2 CD "Shoes for Industry" set, which is missing a lot, but does have Nick Danger, High School Madness and Bozos.

Smoking a brisket (or anything else) is not that fucking hard.  It just requires a little attention and a lot of time.  We have a great smoker that cost us around $100.  Three hundred pounds?  I can't imagine what a working model would cost retail, and it's completely unnecessary.

“I know this 18- to 30-year-old demographic,” Parker says. “I’ve been in the lab with them, I’ve been in the battlefield with them, I’ve pulled all-nighters with them, I’ve stood in the desert and cried with them when one of them got killed. Motivating them sometimes requires a pat on the back—and sometimes a boot.”

Sounds like an arrogant cunt, doesn't he? Slice up some more Hajji for the smoker, soldier!

Hugh Howey wrote in "Glitch" something to the effect that, what with all our efforts to make our computers and robots seem to be alive and autonomous and to interact with us "naturally," should an actual AI ever develop, we might not recognize it or even notice it.
