Except for pocket exceptions, the culture of American regions are mostly concentrated in the civic leaders and government officials.  Everybody lives everywhere now, even in the deep south, due to economics.

We've spent some time in Mobile, AL and Columbia, SC and what both cities have in common is that the redneck Conservatives live inner city and the laid back Liberals live in the suburbs.  This is due to the suburbs being filled by, mostly, transients like ourselves.  Work for a couple of years and then move out.

Conversely, cities in Texas seem to be the opposite which I assume is caused by White Flight.  The Rednecks keep moving farther and farther away from the Inner City to get away from blacks and Hispanics, making the urban areas more and more Liberal.  Except for Fort Worth which is Redneck completely, regardless of race, creed, or color.

If they hadn't brought all this to the front page of the news, we could have focused on something that actually matters like keeping fucking crazy people from having guns, or creating resources to fight extremism.  Because racist assholes committing murder sure sounds like another form of extremism to me.
