South Station's train depot and surrounding food court is halfway pleasant and not too overpriced. The bus station next door looks like maximum security cell block.

Most bus stations in the USA are to be avoided at all cost, unless you are intentionally trying to catch meth-herpes.

I worked for Greyhound corporate in 93-94 when they remodeled the bus station in downtown Dallas.  Stayed nice for about six months.

Providence moved its bus station in Cianci's 90s from downtown to a couple blocks south of Pawtucket, accessible to no one on foot. The city's majestic old train station, meanwhile, was arsoned into a banking venture and brew pub. The new replacement station resembles a fallout shelter.
