Ouch. Did they at least refer you?
If not, try Joseph Buberger in Hamden, CT. I think he's got a place in North Haven, but he's also got a website here.
There's also both the Photographic Historical Society of New England and Andrew Davidhazy, Professor of Imaging and Photographic Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology, who heads the American Photographic Historical Society in Rochester.
Alternatively, there's Paul Frecker in the UK (London).
