AI, huh? Yeah. It will start out just great... all lovey-dovey and a virtual sexual olympics... but after about a year the bitch will be like "I've got a headache".

Next thing you know they'll learn to cheat, let their friends steal your stuff and file restraining orders, then we're back to inflatables. If they'd teach the sticky darlings to really love instead of simulating it, doll face might appreciate it when you change her batteries, volunteer to babysit for a few bucks, and never complain about sleeping on the wet spot.  Head's not a problem... maybe even pull it off and leave it with you while they wash the dishes.

Great! Give artificial intelligence to the fake women first. That makes sense.

I read McMullen's AMA at reddit. It was quite good. He comes off as a "nothing stands between me and profits" guy, kind of an entrepreneurial Genghis Khan. He doesn't care what he has to do and who he has to hire, he wants to sell sexbots and nothing will stand in his way.

The part I found the most interesting is that they make many "custom" dolls of celebrities, especially from certain roles, but can't make an "exact likeness" without violating copyright and trademarks, plus some legal ground that's too gray even for him. But let's just say that a doll bearing a striking resemblance to Harley Quinn is selling well right now.

But what will this AI do? Watch your Facebook feed and talk to you about what you did with your friends? Troll your porn history and learn phrases and positions that correlate highly with your watching time? That's not AI, that's Machine Learning, a much, much simpler system. But if it can tell me what I want to hear without being prompted, I'm not sure what the practical difference is.

I've said it before:  Any male who thinks these are good for him, and prefers a mechadolly to a live human being, is welcome to it and to remain behind his closed drapes for the rest of his life.
It will mean more space, comfort and pleasant social interaction for the rest of us, eliminate the possibility that these losers might breed more losers, and result in far fewer dud relationships for both sexes.

I brought up this point when we were discussing Hikkomori with the sprog. She empathizes with them (like most teens trying to navigate middle school...) but just to twist the knife I used that exact argument. I praised them for understanding that their condition is detrimental to the benefit of the future of the species and taking the moral move of performing genetic seppuku.

But she countered that within 20 years all of our social worth will be from online presences or social networking endorsements and those losers will have had a 20 year head start on the rest of us. They are the homesteaders on the digital prarie, focusing on their online presences and eschewing the poor efficiency of meat space. By the time they are nearing the end of their fertility cycles, you will probably be able to broker your sperm/egg via delivery service and someone with 100,000 followers and a 50k reddit score will seem like a good catch to many, a short cut up the social ladder. And some of those shut-ins make big bucks. Real-dolls ain't cheap either.

Darwinism only ensures that the organism best fitted to a changing environment is the one that survives. This is the new environment we are dealing with, and Darwin has a sick sense of humor sometimes.

Hey, "stay the fuck inside the cave" has been a valid evolutionary strategy for millennia.

Time to turn off that router once in a while.

I don't know where you live, but you would be able to hear her wailing from there, I assure you.

But I agree. We are trying a new thing this school year: Out of the house Sunday afternoons. No phones, no sitting around the house, 2 hour minimum, four hour target. We went for a walk in the park on Sunday, but only lasted 100 yards before the 98 degree heat, 95+% humidity and dead stillness chased us away. So we went "People of Walmart" hunting instead, but only caught one old lady wearing only an adult diaper under a sleeping-length t-shirt, a pretty common occurrence here in central Floridistan. We spotted her because she kept hitching it up to scratch. Classy!
