I was a four year old boy living in deepest, darkest Lima, Peru when Paddington first appeared in 1958 and convinced me beyond any doubt the English are completely fucking nuts. Exhibit A; marmalade. Nothing I've seen or tasted since ever convinced me otherwise.
The English, my first grade teacher explained, were a nation of arm chair travelers who never ventured anywhere, had no culture of their own and had to appropriate everyone else's.

While living in the Philippines, enrolled eldest (daughter) in local Montessori.
Only American kid in the school. However, during their International Day pageants/parades,
being blond-blue, she was always relegated to represent Sweden.
Though, that cute sverigedräkten she wore might be a burqa these days.
