Obviously. My guess is some technical glitch will develop which will cause the flight to be called off. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be either inside the rocket, or anywhere near it if he actually goes ahead and tries to launch.

Eighteen hundred feet is a silly height anyway, since the curvature of the earth wouldn't be apparent (you pass through that mark in the first minute after take off in a jet plane). A weather balloon or something similar could hit altitudes of 100,000 plus feet in elevation, and with modern technology, send back the pictures to document the journey. From that elevation, the curvature of the earth is plainly visible.

It has publicity stunt written all over it.

Hughes promised the flat-Earth community that he would expose the conspiracy with his steam-powered rocket, which will launch from a heavily modified mobile home — though he acknowledged that he still had much to learn about rocket science.

This has Christian Nutjob written all over it too.  WFT, even Jules Verne would call bullshit on this guy.

The problem with being a proud science know-nothing is that you don't even know how high you have to go to see the curvature of the earth.  He's only going to miss it by 33,200 feet.

Self-proclaimed rocket scientist puts “flat-earth-proving” launch on hold

Evolution missed its chance Saturday at ridding the round planet of a “self-taught” rocket scientist bent on proving the earth is flat by launching off in his homemade rocket...
