There are stupid and silly people everywhere. I think the key to maintaining sanity involves figuring out which forms of human weakness you find most dangerous and offensive, and avoiding them where possible. Portland's silliness (which certainly exists in abundance) seems pretty tame compared to the hate mongering and pervasive ignorance which is common in other parts of America. You could not pay me enough to live in the Deep South.
