Note: Kurt Vonnegut credited the idea for Ice-9 in "Cat's Cradle" to Nobel Prize-winning General Electric research chemist Irving Langmuir. Asked to host novelist HG Wells during his visit to GE, Langmuir suggested a form of ice stable at room temperature might prove entertaining science fiction. Wells passed and Vonnegut declared finders-keepers.
