Phantom VIII - "Autonomous driving?  All of our customers can afford chauffeurs."

Nope - not electric... ...it's a twin-turbo gas engine but instead of RPM it gives you a "Power Reserve %".  Considering the purpose of the car I think that's pretty spot on.

Agreed; but nobody ever bought a Chrysler for its looks, did they?

This is a point of function over form.  The Phantom is the ultimate status symbol and it simply oozes extremely good taste.  Remember Rolls Royce will turn you down, they don't have to seek business, business seeks them.

The bespoke Sprinter (what a name) is the extreme of comfort, safety and function.

With the Mercedes Sprinter you can stand up, use the toilet, straighten your clothes in a full length mirror and then exit the vehicle 100% media and situation ready.  It can also be hardened to an amazing level and has handling & speed belying it's appearance.

(note:  I call it the Sprinter because that is the base vehicle it was developed from)

Everyone needs a box, but not everyone has a Swiss fire box.

Friend had this one imported.  He is Swiss of course. His buddy has an even cooler 4 wheel drive version.

I, too, am waiting for this.  I love cab-overs. There's a guy around the corner from me with a VW flat bed, but I think he just modified an old micro-bus.  I haven't been close enough to see if it's legit.

Oversized female-only parking spots marked with a stiletto icon in eastern China have been strongly criticised as sexist on Chinese social media.

The controversial parking spaces at the Jiande and Tonglu service stations in the Zhejiang province are reportedly 3.2-metres wide — or one-and-a-half times the size of "normal" parking spaces.

Those days are gone.

Melons and I are discussing whether it's better to do a retro '68 Charger with big block and cross ram or put that magnificent design over a super fast electric.

Life if full of tough decisions.

(FYI:  The first lot SRT-4 is undergoing resto, as the original owner I think it's worth the cost.)

Just what the world needs, more 3 second grocery getters.

But I would embrace an all electric drop in replacement power plant for classic cars. I'm sure you could build the package smaller and lighter than the big iron blocks of Detroit, even including the batteries. Motor mounts to prop shaft, drop in unit. Too bad you would still have to suffer the Dodge suspension and steering geometry....

Yeah, well if this was a choice not borne of classic car fetish, an indulgence you can pay for as you see fit, I would ditch the Dodge and get something that can steer away from certain death at speed.

Modern electrics at this stage may be more neutered sedans than ball grabbing thrillers, but they have amazing torque and sure handling.

I have a two ton 2009 Nissan Maxima, the ultimate old man race car, and it blows the doors off most of those muscle cars of our golden past especially through the turns.  I've had it up to 105 on the highway with pedal room to spare, drove the back roads between Greenville SC and the Smoky Mountains at 60 MPH with hard braking on the turns (thank you anti-lock brakes), and once took a left turn on a downtown street at 45 MPH. (not to prove a point, I almost missed my turn).

Pretty soon the electrics are going to be there too.  I can only imagine how those Teslas handle.  I saw one at a golf course and it was the widest car I'd ever seen.

I drive a 2003 first lot Dodge SRT-4 Neon, it traps at 110mph on a bad day and still gets 32mpg, Maxima's are a snack at best.

The concept here is if its a good idea to drop the body of a favored style on an electric frame for the go forward as opposed to having the rumble of a replacement hemi.  The idea that Dodges can't turn is hilariously contradicted by the races won in that era; a good driver got far more from those Dodge suspensions than any other available at that time.

So the question remains is it the rumble or the style?  Is it the delicate tuning or the programming?

What can be done with one on a track and what you'd do on a road with warts are wildly different.  I had a Griggs Racing suspension under the Mustang and hitting the brakes in the middle of a curve was bad, and had me cussing who or whatever was in front of me. With bumps it was downright seat sucking.  Doing the same thing with good independent suspension is no big deal.  I'm a mediocre driver on a good day, I've ridden with someone really good, at speed, on a track that I'd driven, and can see the difference.  Give me modern suspension geometry and brakes for going fast.  For fun to drive, noise, and looks I'll take the old one.

Rumble. That sound, or any sound at all even is getting very rare. Hence my girl''s BMW makes almost no sound at all. Even with the turbo full on.  They don't even bother anymore to fake it with the speakers.

I'm probably gonna go with Johnny, drop the body style and interior over the electric drive train and suspension.  At least for a daily driver, but the style these days is crap at best and I'm fucking sick of sedans.

Ford throws in the towel and realizes it can't compete against anyone in the sedan or compact car market.

I get it. They make more money off of F150, Transit vans and Mustangs than any of that other trash they have been playing catch-up with, and this is a good way for the CEO to clean house of a lot of old, un-modernized plants and expensive union contracts. But, darn it, that Fiesta is just so much fun to rent and rally around parking garages...
