Two police officers, a sergeant and a corporal, are in stable condition at hospital this morning after they opened fire on each other in a restaurant on Wednesday night in what is being described as a love triangle.
Initial reports say around 9.35pm, security officers at Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Grand Bazaar mall saw the corporal and a woman go to the restaurant's upper floor.
The security officers said the couple was being followed by the sergeant, who approached as they were leaving a few minutes later.
Eyewitnesses say the sergeant said, "You make meh loss meh house and meh wife, I ain't taking that tonight."

The San Francisco Police Officers Association is aggressively pushing a ballot measure that would allow police to use tasers on members of the public even if they aren't violently resisting. If passed, the city’s police officers would be able to electrocute people who pose no physical threat or resist arrest as a result of mental illness.

I suspect an ulterior motive Choad. One possibility is that in the current focus by the DEA on civil forfeiture rather than prosecutable cases, they may be looking to establish that tainted currency is evidence of illicit connection. This was used successfully in the late 1980s until some defense lawyers managed to get cases through federal appeals courts that demonstrated scientific evidence shows most currency in circulation is tainted and that alone is not evidence of a criminal connection for the cash.
Or not? Since just having too much cash has been enough reason for them to take it for quite awhile.

I blame the civil service unions. More regulations mean more employees and more employees mean a stronger union. After all, if one drug bust has money that comes from a fentanyl packing plant, you just *have* to treat every bill from the street *just in case*. From their perspective, it's all benefit and no cost to themselves. After all, it's not like it's *their* money they are spending.

They're the symptoms, the unreasonable violation of search and seizure laws are the problem. Drugs are handled with the same zealotry that Witches were in Salem, MA in 1692.

That's the problem with absolute power corrupting absolutely. It's often hard to tell where the corruption starts.

Getting back to your original point, Civil Servant becomes Civil Master. You can't fight a bureaucracy that you can't even vote out of office.

Say what you will, the man found a good lawyer.
"[Public defecation, lewdness and litter charges are] like getting photographed and fingerprinted for a speeding ticket," his attorney Matthew Adams said in an email to NJ Advance Media.
Local news vendors have stripped to skeleton crews and abandoned any pretense of informing their readership. Press releases, obits and lightly rewritten police logs arrive camera ready. Anymore, that's all she wrote. Wall to wall misbegotten misadventure and misdemeanor.

An Ohio police chief died from an accidental fentanyl overdose after the drugs were removed from his department’s evidence room
Sounds like a real upstanding guy...
A check of Hughes' personnel records from the departments where he has worked show he has been the subject of multiple investigations and one former supervisor said he would "never be accepted or respected as a leader."
According to Hughes' personnel file from the 14 months he worked at the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office in 2012 and 2013, Hughes was the subject of at least three internal investigations. He resigned about six months after he was hired in October 2012, only to be re-hired in November 2012 as an employee in the jail.
In those internal investigations, Hughes was found to have engaged in a relationship with a female inmate after she was released from the Fairfield County Jail, although Hughes and the female both denied any sexual conduct took place.
In December 2012, Hughes' supervisor at the time did a one-month performance evaluation after Hughes was rehired. The evaluation references two investigations Hughes had been involved with following his rehiring.
The supervisor wrote Hughes needed to make improvements in his decision making and said his choices made him a poor leadership candidate.
"I believe that Deputy Hughes needs to think before he acts," the supervisor wrote. "Deputy Hughes is known to make bad decisions on and off duty."
Six months after that review, in June 2013, Hughes was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated for an incident that occurred at a fast food restaurant in Whitehall.
...
When questioned by a Whitehall officer, Hughes said "f--- those ignorant (racial slur)" and said they could not get his order right. Hughes denied flashing his badge, saying he had opened his wallet to get a debit card, but his badge was visible inside his wallet.
Hughes then admitted to spitting on the window, saying "Yes, I was pissed."

I was there just days before the siege. Hippie chick biker girl friends lived further down the street near Cobbs Creek. They were forced from their home so the blocks could burn.
The police's own videos of cops shooting 10,000 rounds were withheld from the public for years. First time I got to see just how cops operate when left to their own devices. Callously cruel ineffective incompetence.
Oh and as for Philly, racism was assumed in all dealings between different ethnic classes and on all sides equally. Even if you were a nice decent person with good relations to all, some level of outright racism was assumed to be the norm, not the exception.

You're right. The link I took to get there said Virginia and I didn't double check.
I spent my first year in Norfolk and only thing I remember is the base hospital remodeling their botched circumcision. No joke, some things you never forget, I don't care how young you are.

Portugal was the world's first country to abolish life imprisonment in 1884.
The maximum sentence in Portugal is 25 years, with the possibility for parole.

There have to be a lot of ways to carefully wake up a person holding a gun. Getting five officers to flashlight your face you while shouting at you probably isn't the best one.
