Have you seen The King of Hearts?

Back when there was such a thing as The Midnight Movies, it used to play with Bambi Meets Godzilla and Thank You Masked Man.

Jeez, man, you must be like really old. Unfortunately I do remember all that, although it's been a long time since I watched King of Hearts. You probably remember "Chilly Willie" too.

I was surprised to find the film Nine Queens available in its entirety on YouTube, and with the necessary English subs. The quality is acceptable.

Nice Queens is a fun film and an easy watch. The story centers on two con artists who meet and decide to cooperate in a major scam. The film was nominated for 28 awards and won 21 of them, and is now considered a classic in Argentine film history. You should check this out if you haven't already seen it:

American Anarchist (2016). The story of "The Anarchist Cookbook," and the role it played in the life of its author, now 65, who wrote it at 19 and flatlined before the film's release.

Vera (s09e02), True Detective (s03e03) and Counterpart (s02e06) all air new episodes this evening, so we have that going for us.

If you waded through last holiday season's movie industry hype about Roma and watched it anyway, you have my sympathy. I mean...

I know you've read Palm Sunday, where he collected most of those thoughts. What'd you think of his delivery, apart from the two-pack-a-day wheeze?

And Vonnegut's probably copyrighted asshole.

No, comment on the asshole.  :D  Yes, we still have a copy of Palm Sunday around on the shelves somewhere.  Probably under "V" huh?  We also have Slapstick which is a semi-autobiographical science fiction novel.  Hi Ho...

Gawds that man's mind was quick.  He was eloquent, witty, and his audience was very appreciative of it.

I loved the way he graphed out a typical three act television show or movie story, and a typical boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back story.  I also loved, "I don't know how long I've been talking because I forgot to start my stopwatch."

Baptiste sounds interesting. Haven't watched a good detective show in years. Might try this one despite the iffy review. Who cares about the reviews, right? haha

Europe and the UK have quickly reclaimed the spy/mystery/crime throne.

The first episode of Shetland, Season 4 airs tomorrow. Last season was terrific.

They're making a Miss Fisher's movie, Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears.  We didn't realize how recently made the televsion shows were, the characters will only be four years older for the movie.  There will be limited theatrical run in North America, othewise, it will only be on Acorn TV until somebody dumps it on YouTube.

And, from Vox:

Acorn will also be the North American home of the forthcoming Miss Fisher spinoff, Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries. (“Modern” here is relative — the spinoff is set in the ‘60s, as opposed to original flavor Miss Fisher, which takes place in the ’20s.) It features Phryne’s niece, Peregrine Fisher (Geraldine Hakewill), who becomes a brilliant private detective in her own right, and it, too, will premiere later this year.

Doubtful they can catch lightning twice, but I wish them well.

I went to a memorial service yesterday - first mistake - and marveled to a friend at least my former neighbor George is still kicking at 102. No he's not, said his widow sitting behind me. Second mistake. I should've stayed in bed. No joke.

Maybe a little one.  Maybe binge-watch all six, that way you can see him begin to climb out of his hole.  The second season should be interesting.

12 O'clock Low

"The company that made a movie out of Joseph Heller's first novel, Catch-22, had to assemble what became the 11th or 12th largest bomber force on the planet at the time."

Kurt Vonnegut, NYTimes Book Review, Oct 6, 1974.

George Clooney's e01-e06 reboot never leaves the tarmac.

And I'm sorry Alan Arkin lived to see it.

Charles Sheeler & Paul Strand - Manhatta (1921) - Runtime 11min 45sec.

Silent film epic of NYC streets, skyscrapers, bridges, rail yards, harbors and shipping. Woodwind instrumentals behind the recently restored images are perfect.

Funny and a bit creepy but this is my own memory of NYC in the middle 50s. I occasionally tagged along with my old man on tugboats as he met freighters entering the harbor.

Thanks, Choad.
Not what i expected from anything associated w/ Michael Moore. Columbine, meh.  This one disturbing.
Guaranteed: This very same group of enviro-charlatans are vehemently opposed to ANYTHING  ☢☢ nuclear ☢☢ - Which, aside from a mass extinction event, IS the BEST option.
Subsequent to viewing, found myself rooting for Wuhan Flu and as before perfectly willing to take my own chances.
Automatic donations to The Nature Conservancy were just terminated.
Doubling down on my current tree planting crusade. Friends & neighbors know me as a tree worshiping litter nazi.
Sadly, most protesters in the documentary wouldn't know the working end of a shovel.
