Damn fine reading. If you want to slash your wrists.

Lurker, did you even read the description of the titles?

Returning to his hometown of Winchester, Virginia, after 30 years of life among the elite journalistic class, Bageant sought to answer the question of why the working poor vote for Republicans in apparent opposition to their own interests. On a broader level, he examines issues of economic class distinctions as he drills below the middle-class claims of his hometown. The reality is that two of five residents do not have high-school diplomas and virtually everyone over 50 has serious health problems in a town—and nation—with poor and failing schools and health systems. Still clinging to illusions of personal responsibility and the vain hope of someday achieving wealth, Winchester's residents fall deeper into debt, farther behind in ambitions beyond working in the local factory—if they're lucky—and, along with their children, subject to the de facto draft of economic conscription.

The Antichrist

Screams and nightmares
Of a life I want
Can't see living this lie no
A world I haunt
You've lost all control of my
Heart and soul
Satan holds my future
Watch it unfold

I am the Antichrist
It's what I was meant to be
Your God left me behind
And set my soul to be free

Watching disciples
Of the satanic rule
Pentagram of blood
Holds the jackal's truth
Searching for the answer
Christ hasn't come
Awaiting the final moment
The birth of Satan's son

Screams,
From a life I live
Torment,
Is what I give
Torture,
Is what I love
The down fall,
Of the heavens above

I am the Antichrist
All love is lost
Insanity is what I am
Eternally my soul will rot (rot... rot)

Slayer are SNAGS. Gimme Poison Idea or Black Flag any day.

I was guessing since I have never, to my knowledge, heard a song by either band and the names sounded metally.  I've at least heard of Black Flag, though.

Yes, he was....now he's just a dreadlocked old fucker with bad eyesight.  Circle Jerks also ruled...I STILL identify with "World Up My Ass"  Also, what's left of Flipper is playing an in-store gig at Amoeba later this month.  CRIME (what's left of them as well) are playing Feb. 22 at Cafe DuNord....

And yes, JLP, you had to be there.  When, at the time, popular music consisted of "Afternoon Delight" "Muskrat Love" and dog knows whatever other shit was out there....punk was a blessing.  I was lucky to get in at the start, saw some great bands like the Germs, Patti Smith, Elvis Costello (when he still mattered) The Clash, Dead Kennedys, and on and on.....

As far as "American Hardcore",  heh, it had too much of Mr. Rollins and that asshole Ian McKay. (love Fugazi, not so much Minor Threat) Really the only people that could add something to the conversation are dead....'cept Miss Biafra.  I avoid him now when I see him at a show.  He NEVER shuts up.

Funny story,  about 5 years ago, I was at a Halloween Resident's show, some fat jerk sat right in front of me with his girlfriend, they started making out...turns out it was Jello Biafra.  I almost told him Happy Anniversary, as he had been married years ago on Halloween in a cemetary... his wife ran off with the DK's roadie, Microwave... Ah, good times.

Oh, Felch, yer right the Brits did rip it off, just listen to Iggy and the Stooges Raw Power, it's got shake appeal....

I was interviewed in SF the night of the Pistols show, or the night after or before (very hazy memory)... I had just brought back a line of clothing that was the only competition at the time for McClaren's Seditionaries (later Sex... Vivienne Westwood was the brain)  (My future wife was working upstairs from Seditionaries oddly enough...) anyway, the filming crew were familiar with the line "Boy" as well as my association with Jake Rivera as well.  The ex-girlfriends twin sister did the modeling in the background, stripping down to nothing, putting the various items on.  It was pretty funny.

My My...  You're right, VW was the brains behind that shop.  Malcom McLaren has always struck me as an opportunistic leach that never quite gets it right. I read somewhere he had the New York Dolls dressed in red-patent-leather nazi drag for a show in Florida.  Oddly enough, the Dolls are playing a show here in SF later this month...I'll pass.  I am thinking about going to see Crime.

Yep, have to agree.  I got to see them in '76 and '77.  Amazing theatrics for the time.  They had Leila and The Snakes open for them.  Too bad Jane Dornacker died, in a helicopter crash, her second one.

A real tragedy, the father of her daughter, Naomi, died shortly before Jane died.

True, back when I was a stoner in high school, I was totally into that wooden shit...I had every single Dead album, Airplane, Dan Hicks, Country Joe, Janis, Hendrix, Doors, etc...

But, damn if punk didn't turn all that shit around....I loved the attitude, the look, and most of all, the sound.  This was before I came out, even though those around me knew....

What ? You really _believe_ punk whether Brit or US from 69 to 85 _never_ changed anything ?

Or before that, the original punk, Jerry Lee Lewis ?

It changed a shitload. We've just reverted to "Happy Days" and "Gomer Pyle" after all the good work.

Jesus, old glory and apple pie.

Back to the point - how much Jesus is underestimated as an apocalyptic threat. He's as deadly as Allah and all free-thinkers need to acknowledge this.
