Do I ever remember those days.  It has always been a culture war, since the 60's. I love how the go to is "Communist". I am on a couple of right wing forums and they call Biden a "Communist". It just devalues the term. "I don't know what it means, but I'm agin it!"

Having had my life threatened a few times in the last few years by our friends on the conservative side, yes. Being aware of situations, and keeping family, friends, neighbors, community safe and protected should be a consideration.
