The sun has literally set on the British Empire
given last year’s deal with Mauritius, this means Thursday night at (2:50 AM GMT on March 21 in London), the sun finally, literally set on the British empire.
It is all the fashion to worry about what the Trump has in store. What if his dreams of Empire are already over? Certain realities around his admin's ability to alter course may well be beyond his self-control. C'est la vie populist, the money has all been spent.
Is the Sun Setting on America’s Financial Empire? | The Ezra Klein Show
Kenneth Rogoff is a former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund and a professor of economics at Harvard University. He has a book coming out called “Our Dollar, Your Problem.” In this conversation he walks through the history of dollar dominance, why it’s been waning in recent years and what ripple effects the Trump administration’s policies might have.
The summary is at 47 minutes in.
Exhibit A, if Trump's next move is to start debt spending, mistakes have already been made in reducing the dollars influence that will bite us. He does point out in the last summary, that if Trump's next move is the tax cuts he and congress wish to enact in the coming months, with associated deficit spending, we arrive too late to pop the toast out of the toaster. A move Trump and the GOP seems to wish to do now while they have the majority. Too little discussion has been had in the media about this.
Here he discusses being shocked by how fast Trump has accelerated the downfall. Before this year he was suggesting we were 6 to 10 years out from the cracks formed from debt, inflation and competing geopolitics pulling the US's dominance apart. Irrespective of whether the current flavor of Republicans or Dems hold sway in Government. Now it seems we are looking at what's coming right around the corner
