Sorry if you were unable to access High Street yesterday. Our hosting provider had an outage lasting more than a day at the Newark, NJ datacenter we're in. Things were down from approximately 06:00 on July 27 to 08:30 on July 28.
I haven't yet had the chance to verify this, but at first glance it appears that all of the data are intact and nothing was lost.
Edited to add: times/dates above are in the U.S. Eastern time zone, in case that wasn't obvious.

No problem, I was worried that somehow the orange turd had been dropped into our punchbowl. The right of shitty little websites like ours shall not be infringed!

Yeah, this is home to me, regardless of all the social media shit I get tangled up with. I alerted the refugees over on FB that Cruelery was down/gone/kaput.

If there ever is a concern, you can always try e-mailing me at info /at/ cruelery.com. The e-mail setup is completely separate from the web hosting so a technical problem should not take down both (unless it's a massive one affecting the whole Internet). How long it takes me to reply depends on what I'm doing, so don't get too antsy if it takes a while.
The database is still having some hiccups, probably from being shut down and restarted unceremoniously. You may encounter some errors or delayed loading times on pages in the meantime; I will have to investigate some more. I do not expect this to affect data integrity.

There's a Facebook group?

OK, I dumped out the database into a file and then re-loaded it. Everything seemed to complete without errors, and the database server is no longer crashing and restarting like it was earlier today. Please speak up if you notice anything amiss.
Sorry for the web site being down again, but I needed to do that to work on the database. I'm going to wait about 20 minutes, then reboot the entire virtual machine to make sure it comes up properly - it should be down for less than 5 minutes if we're lucky. Edited to add: the reboot went just fine, so I think we're good.
All this has made it clear a better backup plan is needed. We do have some, but if this virtual machine had disappeared it would have taken a tremendous amount of time to put it all back together again. Hopefully next weekend will be quieter and I can put some effort into it then.

Below the list of Short Bus Friends you'll see an image that links to a MySpace presence that used to be run by fnord (who, sadly, hasn't visited in about 5 years).
I either never heard about the Facebook group or forgot about it.
I eschew "social media" stuff so have no idea what goes on either of those places, though I would presume the MySpace page is effectively, if not actually, dead.

Yes. Do you want contact info? It is a private group.

Tempting, but there's a certain comfort in anonymity.

Well understood. Family and friends have told me to stop posting so much stuff on the current run of BS. I had trouble for years coming and going into the US, UK... and there was more, but with the times I don't want to reawaken the Kraken.
