From what I know of Russian culture, the solution to what ails you is always alcohol or physical punishment, or both. Don't they also like to be flogged on the skin with evergreen boughs and then plunged into a freezing lake upon emerging from a sauna? Or is that those wacky, fun-loving Finns?

I read this book about european alcohol culture by a Russian ex pat. On a trip to Moscow he visted his friend who had become the head of preeminant rehab hospital. To secure favorable treatment family members would bring him bottles of foreign hooch.
The funniset thing was that in the shrinking budgets of post soviet russia, to make up the funding shortfall the hospital ran a black market liquor store on the corner which would earn its profits by selling booze to the inmates who would lower down a basket from the windows above.

The whipping therapy becomes much more efficient when a patients receives the punishment from a person of the opposite sex.
Worked for my GF - she hasn't touched a cigarette since. Also made for some "interesting" although not classically "hot" sex afterwards.
