I came up on a motorcycle accident in the hills a few years back..... It had just happened a few seconds before I got there and the lady who was in the accident was all twisted and broken up and half of her skull was missing...... You could see where her face had slid on the pavement for some distance... It looked an awful lot like that picture you posted, except that there was a lot more creamy bits strewn about.... I called 911 and hung around for a couple of minutes until the sheriff showed up, told him I hadn't actually witnessed the accident and went on my merry way.... The next day I read about the accident in the newspaper.... She had just gotten married to a guy who had ridden motorcycles for years.... As a wedding gift he got her a new Harley and decided that she should have the skill level he did even though she had never been on one before..... Long story short, she wiped out trying to keep up with him around that corner at nearly 100 miles per hour....

Oh, don't worry about pleasin' lil ol' me. Like the rest, I've got the whole Rotten.com Encyclopedia stuck in whatever portion of my brain one assigns to "shit you don't discuss on a first date." Some days, I think it would be nice to meet someone who looks at this sort of thing and thinks 'such is life,' but I think I'd much prefer someone who wasn't quite as jaded. Living vicariously through their sense of innocence is nearly equal to knowing the world dishes up such abominations and yet I keep on keepin' on. People splatter under the right conditions. That's just a fact.

I once saw a motorcyclist plow into the back of a car stopped at a red light. The force of the impact caved in the car's trunk, and the man flew completely over the top of the car (without touching it), bounced heavily off the front of the hood, and crumpled onto the asphalt. He didn't have a helmet on, so....he could have had any injuries from a few broken ribs to a smashed skull and broken neck. He wasn't getting up, I know that. It disturbed me so much, I went home and crawled into bed, totally wiped out emotionally...sort of in nervous shock. I can only imagine the horror of the CAR DRIVER, who did nothing wrong except be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Another time I passed by a wreck involving a HUGE, very heavy and long tractor-trailer and apparently one or more cars. The collision(s) had been so violent that the cab of the driver's compartment had been totally flattened except for the outer frame, and investigators were standing in---er, ON---the collapsed cab. Chunks of automobile parts were strewn for blocks, as if several vehicles had been shredded, with metal pieces thrown everywhere like confetti. The news didn't cover the accident, so I don't know who was injured/killed or any details, but I'm guessing several individuals and their vehicles were torn apart or horrendously crushed, including the truck driver.

Storm chasers call these "stacked plates" or "upside-down wedding cakes" because of the spiralling updraft layers. We were riding with chase expert Roger Hill in 2005 and saw a "mothership" cell with 6-8 stacked plates. (Later, we got chased by a funnel, watched a massive tornado, and experienced baseball-size hail. A wild ride.)
