The new and exciting Nissan GTR.....   Though not a beautiful car, it has the ability to outperform many European supercars and like the Americans does it at just a fraction of the cost...

Agreed...  Yet another marketing ploy, drop a body which looks somewhat like a HUMVEE onto a Yukon chassis and jack the price up $15,000 while not even attempting to add any of the mechanicals which makes the HUMVEE a capable vehicle...

My first car was a 1980 Honda Civic Wagon with a HondaMatic transmission.  I think they only use it in lawnmowers now.  It was brown, smelled funny, had rust holes in it (except the big ones that I put bondo over), and the radio didn't work.  I sold it for $200 after about a year, and the car died two days later.  What a piece of shit.

Now the 3-cylinder two-door hatchback Geo Metro that I bought after that, now there was a kickass car.  It really did get up to 55 miles to the gallon.  It didn't have much power, but there was plenty of space inside, at the time I could fill up the 8 gallon tank on $10, and the stereo was even nice, right up until some asshole ripped it out of the dash with what appeared to be a screwdriver.

Just for the record, Honda makes a shitty lawnmower.  I used one once.  There's a fucking BELT connecting the driveshaft to the blade.  It claimed to have an overhead cam, don't ask me why.  The blade itself was this convoluted thing that had 2x the cutting surface of a regular lawnmowing blade, which on the horribly underpowered engine meant you were FUCKED except in the shady part of the lawn that is mostly moss and dirt anyway.  Shitty fucking lawnmower.

That seems about par for the course then.  The Hondamatic transmission was sort of like an automatic transmission in that there was no clutch, but basically there were two speeds.  You accelerated up to about 22mph or so and then put it into HI.

It's not that I have anything against Honda.  Currently I drive a Honda Accord 4-cylinder 4-door EX, and I like it a lot.

Who doesn't love cars?
In my profession, they're more than a necessity, they're something you have to have.
Here's one of my favourites: the '85 ChuckleWagon, which came standard with steering wheel and 4 brand new tires. It may look small, but you could fit a lot of people in one of these babies.
https://cruelery.com/uploads/thumbs/242_clown_car8682327_std.jpg
Then there was the KrashKerpowKart - when people see you coming in one of these they stay the hell out of your way!
https://cruelery.com/uploads/thumbs/242_clowncar69a.jpg
Then there was this baby - wasn't much to look at but she had a great horn, and believe it or not, she could hit 25 under the big top.
https://cruelery.com/uploads/thumbs/242_clown_car.jpg
And of course, no car thread would be complete without a pic of the old Volkswagen JewBuggy - always a laugh on the way to the krematorium!

I perhaps should have made it clear that this was a push lawnmower (though it did have powered wheels on it... the rear ones: you know, the wheels you'd normally use to rotate the mower around on by pushing down on the handle and taking the front wheels off the ground.  These wheels being powered results in you tearing the fuck out of a lawn.  All the powered pushmowers I've encountered, other than this one, had the drive on the front wheels where it made fucking sense.  Terrible lawnmower.).

This is what my first lawnmower looked like, except of course I painted the handle orange and added modern high-performance suspension dampers to give that ultra-smooth ride. I used to push that thing back and forth over the lawn for hours.
https://cruelery.com/uploads/thumbs/242_push_reel_lawn_mower_420.jpg
This is the current model - a little slower, but still a great mower, and very fuel efficient. Has other benefits too, but I won't mention them in case this thread is being monitored by the SPCA! ;)

1983 Hurst-Olds. This car is flying under the radar for collectables. Right now, they going for about 15K if they are in good condition. Only 3000 were made in 1983-84 so I see the value skyrocketing in the future. T-tops and grey interior are extremely rare and are more valuable.

Haha, I talked to a guy with one of these in perfect condition yesterday.

This would make a great car for Sofie. She could put the kids in the trunk.

Maybe sofie should get an Aztec. They are so bloody ugly looking it might be cool to have one. Of course in the same vein she could get one of the few great classic cars from the 1980s. They also happen to be family friendly.

https://cruelery.com/uploads/359_080801b1.jpg

Of course if you really want to put the kids in the trunk she should get this. A full 4 body trunk.

I thought that dash style looked familiar. My friend and I had an 88 Royale from those years. It was the stealth mobile. We brought it so we could drive around without getting hassled by the cops. It worked so well we took it on tours with the Dead.

That would be a true find from the last dying days of old detroit power.

I remember these cars, they were popular with the Jersey crowd. I must warn yoiu though that this was a serious guido mobile. Every single one of these was owned by a greaseball who was a serious inflated asshole.

Which brings up a point to remember about old cars, they are often irrepealably tied to a certain personality type. How much time must pass before the stigma is shed?

They were extremely rare in the south even in their heyday. I didn't know of the guido connection. However, most of my current friends take one look at it and call me a wetback want-a-be.

I have nothing but fond memories of the '83. My buddy had one and it was a pune magnet. It was also the ride that I smoked my first illegal in. Unfortunately that same evening, he took a curve too quickly and hit a tree so hard the t-top center bar popped out. Lucky for me I had gotten paranoid and bailed on him five minutes earlier. I was munching down at the Micky D's and saw the car pass by on the tow truck (adding to my new found paranoia).

some of the '68's are approaching six figures in value and I wonder if this model will eventually do the same.
