I like that the last picture shows the enraged owner soothing his nerves with a bowl. Clearly this is a foot injury-related medication, not just an old fashioned a drug addiction.

Never had a bad injury then, I take it? I get your point, but I know people who have had horrific injuries (auto accident/ broken backs/ MS/ war wounds) that didn't want to be opiated and dulled out, or who doctors were not addressing the situation properly.. Cannabis does relieve pain. I have little use for it, but it works for lots of people.

I've never had a long-term debilitating injury, but I did smoke pot every day for seven years. I was just saying that this guy is pretty clearly using it to manage his mood, not his pain. I'm sure pot eases pain of MS and whatnot, but alcohol's an analgesic too--why not prescribe that?
I'm just saying that this guy strikes me as one of the many disingenuous medicinal marijuana people, working around a law that never should have been on the books in the first place.

The whole medical marijuana thing is such a ruse: just legalize it and concentrate on dealing with other, real crimes. Or outlaw alcohol. Prohibition certainly wasn't any less effective than our current possession laws.

Speaking from experience, weed is a better painkiller than Oxycontin.

Yes, there are people exploiting it... out of the group I know, none of them are, except maybe one, and then again, he has extensive back injuries, but he smokes off and on all day long....(though very productive)
Yes, legalize. But then, where would the corporations that run businesses using prisoners find more bodies?

I can think of a couple places.

You both imply there’s something fishy about medical marijuana and the people who need it. I have a relative with MS who uses it to stop horrendous muscle spasms caused by her illness. A few puffs at bedtime provides relief for an entire day without having to spend her days as a semi-comatose zombie on opiates and muscle relaxers. She was a major prude when she was young, never used drugs and was a virgin when she got married. If she could have a normal life in exchange for never smoking pot again, she would go for it. If you’ve ever been around people receiving chemo, you know how frightening the effects of chemo are and what a difference pot can make. My stoned age is in the past, but if I ever need chemo, I’m smoking my brains out!

You're right - it certainly came off that way, but that's not what I really meant. I do understand there is a need for medical marijuana. I've seen friends with AIDS struggling with wasting who were suddenly able to start eating again because of pot, and I've certainly read enough about others with other diseases to know it benefits many people. My point was the whole legalization movement has embraced medical marijuana as its path to legitimacy and, by default, has become just as hypocritical as the legal establishment in its crack down on pot users. Like alcohol, like tobacco, it should simply be legalized. The helll with medical marijuana. Just legalize the stuff and put an end to the whole damned issue completely.

They're big pharma and the prison industry's shit puppets fighting a rear guard action but don't expect a lot of sympathy from New England. As I understand it, the CA weed that makes it here is overpriced halfbaked rubbish.

Which is too bad; the stuff I get from Mendocino County is lovely.

Ditto, 100%. I would only add that whenever there's a cultural war, the combatants tend to fight it out on the margins. Disingenuousness abounds on both sides, and the honest MS patients in the middle become the pawns of both... Think of Terri Schiavo and the whole euthanasia battle--it's similar to that.
For the record, though, I think if somebody's got terminal anything, there should be no penalties for victimless crimes like pot, crack, hookers, speeding, arson...

He's also got a picture of Gabe Kaplin hanging on the wall in that slide. Clearly this man is of sound mind.

the real tragedy is the article on Obama, who's perceived as acting too presidential by the retarded right wing.
