Wait--if they're comparing stoners to gorillas, doesn't that mean stoners are endangered and precious, just like gorillas? 

So, shouldn't we be preserving their habitat and encouraging them to breed and stuff like that?

No, it mostly means that they are hairy, smelly and fat, sitting around all day scratching their privates and lumbering around looking for something to eat.
