The Band of Bands That Have Rejected the GOP
Honestly, why doesn't anyone take the time to listen to the lyrics?

Obama should win for his playlist alone.

But the McCain camp said last week that it had paid for and obtained all necessary licenses before using the song.
How in the world did they cede all control of their licensing? I would like to know the story behind that. Have the Wilson sisters commented on it?

ASCAP and BMI take care of music licensing pertaining to the collection of royalties. It's not like radio stations and the Muzak people personally go ask the artist if they can play their song. It's a bizznizzzz.

I was never that crazy about Heart's music. But I really think they should go on letting the 'Pubs use "Barracuda" for Palin's theme song.
As always, no one is listening to the lyrics...
And if the real thing don't do the trick
You better make up something quick
You're gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick
Ooo... Barracuda.
"Sell me, sell you"...

yeah maybe so Sofie, but is using the song during a campaign event the same kind of licensing arraingemnt as playing it on a radio station? I would think it is more akin to a contract for an advertising placement.
With the damage that can be done to your brand by poor license placement I would think that a still active artist, they are currently touring and Ann has a solo album out tomorrow, would want much more control and management oversite to weed out objectionable deals. Not that this is even the worst example of such.
My friends who had popular hits in the 1990s, when the floodgates of comercial media licensing opened up in rock, were very very adept at directing their management to be selective with what deals were made and vigorusly pursued organizations that thought they could get away with coopting their product. They were more than willing to sell their music, but only in ways that reinforced their hard won image. One year they recieved a huge settlement from Coors who had tried to get away with using songs that sounded too much like theirs.

Gawd, is it possible to have just one, maybe two threads about Sarah Palin? This is getting hard to follow.
