You're welcome, Fled.
I have another one here that I found quite interesting: a (purported) letter from a citizen of Wasilla, AK. (I wouldn't post it if I didn't believe it is genuine.)
Somebody above asserted the book-banning story was false; the letter says otherwise:
"People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies list to this day."

Palin has been added to Dickipedia:

And McCain's voice mail solicitation of her as a vice presidential candidate is worth a listen:

The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that Sarah's oldest son, Track, was addicted to the power drug OxyContin for nearly the past two years, snorting it, eating it, smoking it and even injecting it. And as Track, 19, heads to Iraq as part of the U.S. armed forces, Sarah and her husband Todd were powerless to stop his wild antics, detailed in the new issue of The ENQUIRER, which goes on sale today.

That ought to be the defining statement of her non-existent vice-presidency.
Ultimately, fewer people will vote for a white woman (of any sort) than a black man (ditto). If they tried to distract from the top of the ticket on the McCain side, then they made an egregious error. While no one can possibly forget his POW experience, we also can't forgive his age.
Personally, I think Obama's nothing but a cipher. I will vote for him, because I'd rather have a zero sum than a third Bush term. What irks me is that I actually liked McCain when he was running against Bush. It makes me wonder where that particular flavor of politicking went. He'll separate himself from the current regime well enough to campaign, but not enough on actual policy? Fortunately, tits don't distract me. Yet, while I normally vote for "the woman" when I don't know the local contenders, this is one woman who represents everything wrong about being an American political candidate. Her strengths are in being a vessel/conduit of God's power. Not believing in her particular god, I fail to find anything useful in her past behavior or current rhetoric. Her existence is unpatriotic, in the most fundamental sense.

Ptah, you need to step away from the Faux news once in awhile and put down the kool aid. In the past decades pres. races have always been close and this one was always going to be no different. The polls are always unreliable and so inexact as to have statisticly absurd margins of error. Particularly months before an election. Obama's apparenttly huge lead was unrepresentative.
His current lead is also so. As would any by McCain if he obtains the poll numbers. If you just go by aggregating the polls combined with the vast advantage in party registration over past elections, Obama has it in the bag
But in actuality it was and remains impossible to tell who will win in a country so evenly divided. Where both party's candidates move so close to the middle in moderate policy the only way to distinguish them is with the smoke and mirrors of identity politics.

What I'm looking at is that both Kerry and Gore were up by huge margins at this point during their run for president. Republicans, historically, get their boost in the last few weeks of elections when they break out the claws. Again, I'm picturing tons of video of Biden slamming Obama and praising McCain but who knows what we will see.
All I know is that, in the past, the Dems have been up by double figures in September. It appears that Obama's numbers have been steadily falling since the end of the primaries. Couple that with no noticeable bump from the convention (considering his speech, this suprises me) and I don't think the guy has a chance... If Edwards was the lefts guy right now, I bet he'd be up by 15 points.. Whatever it is in the kool-aid, it sure appears that the "undecided" vote is drinking it in faster by the day.
I'm not so big on registration numbers, either. Remember, college kids don't generally vote.

I learned long ago that polls are so much bullshit. I ignore them.
I do agree that Obama is still a cipher, but preferable in the eyes of many to what we'll obviously be in store for should McCain get into the White House.
My prediction--although it pains me--is that this election will, indeed, come down to race. I think black Americans will turn out in numbers never before seen to put "their" guy in the Presidency. The black bloc will trump the "hockey mom" bloc. It will be sad only in terms of voters' motivation; as long as it puts the conservatives out of power then I guess I'll have to be okay with it.

And on a personal note, she sent me a condolence note after reading an essay I written about the death of my mother. She is, on top of it all, a nice person.
Sweetheart, I hate to burst your sweet little tainty bubble, but I write letters of condolonces every day and sign the Sen's name. I also write letters of congrats to kids who win gold in the special olympics, folks who retire after 20+ years in public service (or nursing, stuff like that), artists who gain statewide notice for their artwork, and people who've made short films.
You MIGHT be one of the lucky ones who actually gets a letter with a real signature. If her assistant isn't good at forging signatures, she might actually have signed the letter her assistant wrote.
She doesn't give a shit about you, and nobody else in government does either. Actually, there are a few here and there...but they're usually the quiet ones who nobody knows about... not the ones who skyrocket to stardom in less than a decade. The ones who care are the ones who don't toot their own horns. You know why? Because since they don't appear in the papers, they don't need someone whose main job it is to censor every word they say. Once you have a staff member who writes every talking point you say, you stop caring about the people, and you buy into your own bullshit. Period.

I’m afraid you’re right on this one. I’ve made what for me is a very painful decision. I live in a Red State, but right now it looks like Obama will just barely carry it. I’m going to vote for the negro, because no matter what, America can’t take four more years of Bush-type policies. Of course, if it becomes clear Obama hasn’t a chance to carry my state, I will vote for a third party candidate as a protest against the wretched choices offered to us.
If Obama loses, we can look forward to huge negro riots that will cause billions in damage to our major cities. Living in the White boondocks does have its occasional advantages.

Ah, Feisty. I do believe Sarah is a nice person; I know her personally. I also believe she's a right-wing fanatic who believes because I am gay, I am a menace to society and endanger all that is good and godly about America. One of the weird little realities of life is that often those two realities are engendered in the same people.
The note was not only signed by her, but written by her as well. It was something she wrote after reading about Mom's death in our local paper. I wouldn't vote for her for it, nor would I vote for because her husband is someone I'd do in a heartbeat. It does serve as a reminder, however, that despite the worst, we are still dealing with human beings. Even when their politics are abhorrent.
And trust me, I have no illusions about the cynicism of politicians. I spent several years covering some of the sleaziest people to work the Alaska political system, a group that America is only now starting to learn about. There were a few times I honestly feared for my safety and seriously considered a CWP.
She's not a bad person; she's misguided, she's inexperienced, and her beliefs are - in my opinion - plainly wrong. But she's not a bad person.
Anne Frank, and all that.

This wouldn't surprise me. If it happens, it will be a sad day for Americans and minorities.
When OJ was found "not guilty", you didn't see a bunch of white folks out burning the local 7-11 and flipping cars over. I'll never understand the, "I didn't get my way so I'm burning down my own neighborhood" mentality. Why don't the rioters take the bus to an all-white neighborhood and burn that down?
What kind of idiot would riot after their guy lost an election, anyway? I would then be able to say, "for the first time in my life, I'm ashamed to be an American". Ironic that it would be minorities that would lead me to feel that way.

I think race riots drive the races apart, not together.
Massive race riots would only undermine the last 20 years of diversity acceptance, which would do nothing to help our country.
Of course, that's just my humble opinion. I was wrong on three separate occasions.
