In my business, we transport repossessed vehicles to the auction.
I have been flipping out about this one vehicle that was stuck in Buttfuck Egypt, California for weeks. Turns out it had no wheels, and the finance company wasn't about to buy it some new ones.
So, as I'm trying my damndest to find wheels for this vehicle (at my own expense, just to keep my contract with the remarketers), I'm wondering why the asshole debtor took them off. Was it to spite the repo men trying to take it?
Mr. Sofie provided the answer, and I must share it with you.
There is a service called Rent-a-Wheel.
The rent-a-wheelies got the tires before the repo company stole it back.
Don't get me wrong, I'm capitalist as all hell. But this concept blows my fucking mind.
Rent-a-Wheel. That's some ghetto-assed shit.

That is one kickin' website they've got.
Rent-to-own wheels. That's almost as insane as rent-to-own tattoos. Someone somewhere is a genius.

Well, they'd kinda have to deliver, wouldn't they?

I guess the moral of the story is if you can't afford tires, you can't afford a car loan either.
It just makes things a pain in the ass for my drivers. We get ones with no keys because the debtor wouldn't give them up, and we just have to winch them up the bed of the trailer. No tires is fucking bullshit.

But, Sofie, you're not looking at the big picture. In these troubled economic times, think of what they're saving in gas.

If you can't afford the car loan and the wheels, I'm thinking gas is out of the question as well.
They should have sold the wheels and gotten a bike before Rent-a-Wheel got to them.
Another weird thing with our economy -- people are ripping the appliances and fixtures out of their soon-to-be-foreclosed properties. Look on craigslist, you'll see it's true. I found out because our business partner was looking to buy another property, and he's looking at all these foreclosed homes, and the company financing the deal stipulated that the house they get has to be fully equipped with appliances. He's having a hard time finding one that has all its shit so he can buy it.
Our economy is fucked. I'm profiting off our fucked-up economy.
We used to ship frozen seafood. Vehicle remarketing is even more profitable than that.

If you've ever been to the recycling yard, amidst the hordes of dirtypickers with strollers piled high with CRV bottles and aluminum cans are the creeps showing up with copper wire and pipe, stolen from poorly-guarded developments and building projects. Isn't it easier to say, "You want fries with that?" or, "Welcome to Walmart."?

Disclosure: I contract to the company who rents said wheels. If you rent the wheels, your data moved through my programs.
And it is some ghetto shit. We rent $1500 wheels to folks that don't have plumbing.
We are looking into renting out kicker subs next.
