Old Master, Brainstorm, Immigrants, and Civilization are among the words you politically incorrect bastards and bitches should stop using.

Apparently the website of the British Sociological Association, which compiled the list, has been crashed by people wishing to obtain a copy of the list so they can incorporate as many of the taboo words as possible into their speech and writing.

The fight goes on. I was chased out of university for using the word "Nigger" in the title of an essay. I'd been brought up believing in the fantasy of "academic freedom," more fool I. Education, at least in the arts and social sciences, has become little more than the transmission of prejudice through the exercise of mind control, under the guise of "proper thinking." Righteous indignation and fear have been institutionalized as part of the university curriculum. It's as stultifying and demanding of obeisance as religion, and has sharply devalued the worth of a degree.

All your big words, and you were reduced to "nigger" at some juncture? Obviously, you were trying to make some sort of point.

The list of banned words is now sent out to prospective authors by Policy Press, a publisher of social science books and journals based at the University of Bristol, but is also used in many academic institutions.

Actually, I find several words in the above phrase to be patently offensive. "Banned" implies a coercive measure used to undermine free speech, when really all we're talking about here is making language more accepting of diversity. "Prospective" is too hierarchal and implies that some may be more successful than others while ignoring the need for a relative definition of success that recognizes each person's inherent talents and abilities. "Science" may be offensive to persons of faith, and terms such as "University" and "academic" may cause those who have not had the chance to obtain higher education to feel inferior. Finally, "institutions" could cause many who have suffered in various institutions to re-live those experiences, rousing feelings of inadequacy and inferiority.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I was young and naive. The essay was a musing on civilization, atavistic impulses, repression and hypocrisy. The use of the word "nigger" was important to the essay, but part of that importance lay in its obvious shock value. Like Lenny Bruce, I believe that the best way to neutralize the hate-value of words is to use them freely. Repressing language is like repressing sexuality; something that vital to our sense of self is only driven underground and exacerbated by stultifying cultural injunctions. Now let's clear the air. Everybody sit up straight and repeat after me:
NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER
CHINK CHINK CHINK
WOG WOG WOG
WOP WOP WOP
CRIPPLE CRIPPLE CRIPPLE
CUNT CUNT CUNT
KRAUT KRAUT KRAUT
NIP NIP NIP
LIMEY LIMEY LIMEY
CRACKER CRACKER CRACKER
etc. etc. etc.

"The University of Bristol's School for Policy Studies recommends the guidelines to help students "challenge heterosexist assumptions", and they are included in a "toolkit" to combat institutional racism included on the University of Leeds' website."

How did they miss "toolkit" as sexist?
