Guh-reat title. WTF is up with these freaks. Whatever happened to good, old fashioned emotional abuse? There's no television movie to be made if you just kill them and put em in a coleman.

Fuck man, you are such a homophobe. You think there aren't gay east indians? You think they starve themselves before making sweet bum love? Get a life, JLP, and for God's sake stop picking on the gays.

There's a reason we don't do the talking thing here.  Want to know what it is?

MOVIES: The other day I pirated all of Red Dwarf, and I've been working my way through it.  Fucking great stuff, there.  Saw the new Deniro/Pacino thing.  It's a turd.  Also watching my usual array of conspiratorial propaganda videos from the Conspiracy Central bittorrent tracker.

GAMES: Crysis still won't run worth a damn on my computer.  Space Siege is a Gigantic Turd that could have been so much better if they'd bothered to hire writers or voice actors that didn't completely suck.

BOOKS: Re-reading the Dune series (Frank's books, not he-who-must-not-be-named's), for the billionth time.  Considering reading the Bible for the first time in twelve+ years.

UNDERAGED GIRLS: I'm essentially celibate these days.  I'm not too pleased about it, but I don't care enough to go trying to do something about it.

You see, Wilber?  Do you see why we don't do this?  Have either of us gained anything by this?  No.

NEGRO ALERT: THE FOLLOWING POST IS TOO LONG FOR NEGROES. IF YOU ARE A NEGRO, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO READ THIS POST!!!

Haha...okay...it's a midget joke. I'm not sure I qualify - I'm a few inches more than double his height, but the joke was well played.

Well...the personal stuff wouldn't play at all in the day or evening, but at 2:30 AM it's mildly entertaining. When I lost my wife to cocaine I went into a bit of a depression and the only thing that pulled me out of it was watching Red Dwarf and BlackAdder. I have them pretty much memorized. As for the Dune books - they're worth reading and reading again. Having done so I'm finished with them, but there's no denying their worth. As for reading the Bible, somewhere in a box I have a book called The Bible Reader that provides exegesis on all the important parts from three perspectives: christian, jewish and moslem. Not only does it save you the pain of skipping over the begats, it gives you some good insight into the differences and similarities of the three religions.

As for games, I believe I covered the ps3 aspect the other night so I won't bore you with that again. On the comp. I'm playing Travian - basically the modern version of Hammurabi, with lots of differences of course. The server I'm playing on has some 46.5k players...most of them about 12 years old. It's mildly entertaining, but I'm at the point where I'd be quite happy if somebody took me down and released me from the drudgery.

The game I miss playing the most is Descent...remember that one? I wish they'd update it, there was nothing funner than cave crawling and bot shooting in a super-responsive little space craft. That was the game that taught me how to use the hat button...damn...I really miss my hat button.

Anyways...hope I haven't bored you too much. One question: why the celibacy if you're not enjoying it?
(Hey pENIx...is that right? Should I end with a question?)

Remember, hell, I own all three.  The best was the second, which I played 1v1 over a 19200 baud modem connection for many a long night, once upon a time.  My favorite trick was to blow the reactor, sit at the map's exit and defend it as long as possible, then book it out the exit leaving a cloud of mines floating in my wake.

Ahh, and the level editor for that game... due to the way the map geometry worked, you could make tesseract levels in it, like a figure 8 map where the tunnels occupied the same space in the middle but didn't actually intersect.  Great shit.

EDIT: I recently ripped the soundtrack off of my old Descent 2 CD.  Great soundtrack.

I believe that to be the average age on just about all of the servers.  Still, I do get a bit of a sadistic kick from their whiny messages after they say some-thing extremely stupid, and I've set about systematically destroying their villages (Eventually, forcing them in-to deletion).  But, yeah, other than those moments, the game can be a real drag.

Descent fans may wish to check out the port/clone of it called D2X.  It's an opengl clone in fairly active development.  You have to compile it yourself, but if you can get it to build and run you'll find it's remarkably close to the original.

I had all three as well, second was definitely the shit (I mean that in a good way)...but the only one I still possess is #3 which was too short and didn't have half the tension or fun of the first two. It does make you think...with all the power of the modern processor, and the incredible graphics capabilities, I still mourn for jaggy old Descent 2. I never used the level editor - in fact the only level editor I ever used much was for StarCraft. I became a StarCraft junky for a couple of years...spent countless (and cuntless) hours on Battlenet getting my alien ass blown off by Korean hive-minds.

Question...any chance of getting that CD rip off you? I know I'd like it...and so would my dear old Pa, who got me into Descent in the first place.

Also, I note that you avoided the celibacy question. I won't probe into what's obviously a delicate issue, other than to ask, what the fuck's the matter with you?

Sorry - Can't help you there.  I only play the speed servers.  I tried one of the standard servers on the COM once; But, I found the up-grade times required after the first level to be unbearable.  Even the speed servers can be rather dull most of the time.  I only play to have a few "lulz' with my friend from Norway.  At the end of each server, I all-ways swear that I'm not coming back for the next round; But, she all-ways manages to talk me in-to it.

By the way, the UKX just restarted earlier this week if you're looking for a new server.  It's the only one that I'm playing on these days (Having three separate windows open for three different servers all of the time grew to be too much of a hassle).

I'm going to see this through till I'm dead or the Natar butt-fuck me to death (or whatever they do) in three month's time. Travian is slow and silly, but I now have a posse of 12-year-old boys who rely on me for advice...and troops. Will do - Assuming that I remember my-self.  My last two alliances were WW holders; So, I've a few in-game e-friends who definitely know what they're doing.  We'll just have to see which ones return next round (Most of them skipped this one due to the quick restart date {Only five days after the finish of the last server}; So, I went with a small, unknown alliance for a change this round).

I dumped my first alliance when I became aware that the boys in charge weren't very bright, personable, or interested in me - even though I had the largest pop. of them all. My new alliance started from ground zero, and is attempting to construct an enormous defensive grid with regional 15-croppers as cornerstones. It's an interesting exercise in diplomacy (with 12-year-old boys). I am the "Defense master." No kidding. Everybody gets a title and a job, and it's my boulot to pump out non-stop praetorians to shore up the smaller members (and since they're only 12, we're talking some very small members).

"15-croppers" are too much of a hassle to maintain as far as I'm concerned.  Occasionally, I'll settle one as a village to "burn" my excess resources in; But, for end-game, I generally prefer a "9-cropper" as my capital, and try to have most of my resource fields up to level fourteen or fifteen ensuring that I can "spit out" much-needed reinforcements at any given moment (That obviously includes level twenty barracks and stable and a level eighteen tournament square).

And, yeah, the kids generally have no tact what-so-ever - Again, there-in lies the potential "lulz" (I forced five of them in-to deletion last round - Good times).

So, does any-body else on here waste as many valuable hours of their life on this damned game as Wilbur and I (I'm assuming that any-body who doesn't quit following the conversation some time a-go)?

We're thinking about 15-croppers as communal investments. I chose a 9 as my 2nd village, and it's paying off nicely. I certainly wouldn't want a 15 as my 2nd village - too big a drain on the resources of the first. I forced one deletion so far - some little bitch fired off two waves at me in quick succession. I timed it so the first wave landed on an empty village and received no resources, and the second wave broke against 600 lvl 5 praetorians. End result, I destroyed his second wave completely, with no losses to myself. Naturally, I followed up with wave after wave of Imps and Eq. Imps until lo! he was no more. (If anyone is reading this they're either really bored or demented or hypnotized by our incredible nerdiness.)

Yeah, they're fine as a third or fourth village (Can sustain a good sized army and easier to defend than an oasis); But, it never fails to amaze me how many players settle a "15-cropper" for their capital.  I had to "sit" an alliance member's account for a few weeks last server whilst he was vacation, and found the limitations a bit annoying (Only to a slight degree mind you as it wasn't my damned account, and - Thus - not really my problem).  He was all-so a Teuton which didn't help matters as far as I was concerned; But, that's "an-other story."

And, can I assume that you had the sense to save that "9-cropper" for your capital?  It'll seriously pay-off come end-game (Assuming that your alliance has a "shot" at building a WW).  Mine was producing over 35,000 wheat per hour by the end of the last round (You know, when the "multis" tend to over-look the "pushing" rule).

Thanks for the tip - I did have the good sense to make my first village a residence, and the 9-cropper is still around lvl 6, so I haven't been thinking about royalty. Our alliance is nowhere near a WW - we're currently struggling to fend off a couple of enormous rivals. You do get a lovely sense, from this game, of how stressful it must be to have a cancerous gang of bullyboys spreading through your end of the universe like an aggressive cancer. I am still amazed, in this game, by the numerical sizes reached, and the awesome, if abstract, scale of the battles. And I know I ain't seen nothin' yet.

If you're dealing with catapults, you might want to go a-head, and start a stoned-mason there now.  It'll seriously reduce the damage (All-Though, any-body with a level twenty rally point can target it; But, it's rarely the first consideration as taking out the main building, barracks, and stable tends to more effectively cripple your opponent).  And, next time a-round, you might want to consider Gaul over Roman - Compare the attack and defense statistics betwixt the two for the "higher-end" troops (All-So, Gauls have stronger walls and larger crannies and Romans generally make for a more attractive target as - Among other reasons - they tend to be the tribe of choice for "n00bs").

I've been watching the cancer target people's crops, too.

Yes - I'd arrived at this already. And like you, I'm not fond of Teutons. They lack subtlety and defense. They're all rush and no...hmmm...something that rhymes with rush and makes sense in this context...gush...lush...mush...aw fuck it. Anyways, ab initio I arrived at the front door and humbly took what was suggested. My gradient was essentially defensive - three crannies (two demolished now) lvl 15 walls, and praets up to lvl 5 from the armoury. I followed a strict regime of resource dev. (actually, I found that the next step generally suggested itself) and soon dominated my 7, then the surrounding 7s. Now with my resources all up to 12, with 4 13s, I'm pumping out the defense in expectation of all hell breaking loose. I hope it happens soon....

If they're hitting crops (A-Side from those supporting a WW), they're either idiots, or they were attempting to target a structure that hasn't yet been constructed/reconstructed.  Observing their pattern over the next few attacks should let you know which applies.

Ah, I didn't realize that you had fields at that level in your server village.  You might want to wait until you're ready for level eleven fields in your "nine-cropper" be-fore you set it as your capital then; Be-Cause (As you most likely all-ready realize), all of those fields are going to drop to level ten once you make the switch.

As for Teutons, the only advantage is that maces are so cheap that losing a few hundred is no more than a minor annoyance.  Sure, their wall is near-indestructible; But, as it provides fuck-all for defense, who gives a damn?

You'll see some major differences when you try a speed server (Especially when it comes to "hero points" - They really fuck you {And, not in the good way} there on the standard servers).  And, speaking of heroes, if you go Gaul next round, I'd recommend holding out for a haeduan for your hero.  Most people that I know go with theutates; But, the choice seems rather short-sighted to me (Most of them are just so damned anxious to get their hero that they can't be bothered to wait on "haeds;" All-Though, I do realize that a few do choose the theutate for the speed).

There don't seem to be heroes on this server. Or, now that I look into it, stoned masons.... Am I on some crippled version of the real game?

Uhh . . .  That doesn't sound right - Other than the slight variations in the (All-Ready vague) rules from country to country, the basic game should be the same.  You might not be getting the option for the stoned-mason as you haven't set the "nine-cropper" as your capital yet (And, I'm assuming that you have no empty lots remaining in your server-based village); But, if you check the manual link, there should be a "Hero's Mansion" under "Military Buildings."

There's a special circle of hell reserved for you, I'm sure. I dunno if this is mo' like Godzilla vs. Rodan, or Mr. Big Words vs. Hyphen-Man.
