It's a beautiful culture and we can't judge.

Remember early in the Iraq war, when people would get shot at by us for their celebratory gunfire? How deeply ingrained does violence have to be in your culture for this to be considered normal?

We all need to be tolerant and non-judgmental about other people’s customs.  Who are we to say that female genital mutilation, purdah, suttee and other practices are wrong.  Remember your PC training in the principle of Cultural Equivalence.

Well, what do you think it says about our local Messkins that they, too, have to be reminded not to fire off their fuckin' handguns at every major or minor ceremony:  July 4th, Cinco de Mayo, Cantinflas' birthday...

Where does this happen?  I'm not refuting what you say, but I'm living in San Antonio, which is mighty mighty brown (and also pretty close to Messcoe itself), and the Hispanics don't do that here.  They do love their fireworks, but who doesn't?

San Antonio has more high-class Hispanics.  They make announcements in Houston every New Years Eve not to fire guns in the air.

I think the practice should be endoursed and expanded. I'm all for submachine gun volleys to celebrate the end of the day at most businesses. I would personally, if I could get away with it, fire off a pistol for each of the riders as they exit the tunnel to the subway, with an enourmous smile upon my mug, to congratulate them for sucessfully completing the journey. The look on their faces would be marvelous. I also would be interested in how a society behaves when people are randomly killed at a higher rate than our current. I think cooking would improve. I like good cooking.

Where in the hell do you reside that this is such an issue?  Most of the Mexicans that I know living on this side of the border have no interest what-so-ever in fire-arms (And, the ones that I know on the other side of the border have no equivalent to the "Second Amendment;" So, they tend not to advertise the fact that they possess fire-arms).  The few Mexicans that I do know who possess fire-arms are drug dealers; So, obviously, they require them as a "tool of the trade."

And, not to "give in" to stereo-types; But, most of the irresponsible gun owners that I've know were during my years residing in the United States' South-Eastern area (Tennessee seriously sucks - You know, from my own observations).
