Anybody else get the sense that Sarah Palin is a Fascist?  Her rant against cities, the poor, heck, anyone who can't say "Betcha" is scary, not to mention the strong anti intellectual bias.

Where are you from?

Normally we bitch when a newcomer doesn't come bearing a link to something nasty/funny/diuretic; but I know the Internets are about mined out, so never mind.  You can make up for it by showing us your tits.  Or somebody's tits.

Did you find your way here through one of our Affiliates?

Be prepared for lectures on the definition of fascist.  You may also find the answers you seek in one of the approximately seventy-eight threads here dedicated to Palin.

Governor Palin doesn't have to be fascist to make my blood run cold.

Her divisiveness reminds me very much of the Fascists: Fascism is heavily dependent on having an 'outside' threat to rally against.

"We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe" -- here the audience interrupted Palin with applause and cheers -- "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation."

Plus her body language at her rallies reminds me very heavily of Mussolini, not to mention her enthusiasm for corporate/governmental unity.  Mussolini once said that Fascism might be more accurately referred to as Corporatism.

...and, Molly, I don't want to see your tits.  Vag-shot or GTFO.

Because I think we need to up the bar around here.  Tits are too easy.  Hell, tits are legal to flash in public in a number of places.  I think we need to start demanding spread shots.

Thing is, what Sarah Palin is gunning for are the small towns in the upper and central midwest.  Timothy McVay territory.  She's familiar with the area as she went to college there and I'd bet she is well aware that nested in these communities are groups of skinheads and other Arian obsessed Nazis.  Maybe this is a repeat, but the drumbeat is getting ever louder and it is very very scary.

Hypocrites huh?

Oh get down off your high hobby horse Lad. Everyone has the justified right to feel as much condescension of the folks who "live over there" as anyone else. And by gum they feel so regularly. The ability to do so is what makes America great.

The city slickers have as much right to take offense at their treatment by the country mice as the red meat republicans do in your misguided creationist's history of slight. Such mutual slighting  didn't burst into being in the Reagen era. The fence has always held its other side as suspect.  Such disdain was being harnessed for political gain long before it reached a fever pitch during the dust up at the Yank's war of Northern Aggression.

The latest crop  of drummed up  outrage at liberal's condescension is a well worn political tool of the Republican revolution's political startegy to divide and conquer. You have every right to disdain my very existence all you want. But if you fall for this long con, sounding off like such a true believer in your post,  you are a bigger tool then I would have ever thought.

Sad really, I guess what the old timers say is true. The midway will never be lacking of rubes.

You're absolutely right: the feeling is there. What we're seeing is a growing polarization of Americans who not only completely misunderstand one another, but have little incentive - at least from their own perspective - to try and ease the growing rift. There's a great many reasons behind the polarization - education, religion, economy, blah, blah, blah, but I doubt sincerely anyone is going to be able to fix the problem any time soon.

I hear liberals here in SF deride the folks in the flyover territories as rubes, but then who express absolutely no understanding of the concerns and beliefs of those rubes. The extremes on either side are incapable of seeing nuance and, instead, see everything in black and white. Nothing is black and white. Not a fucking thing in this world is black and white.

Eventually, like any empire, the US will begin to crumble in on itself. I just hope I'm living in the part of the country where I want to be when it happens.

I'll not deny that the ruralities have their share of the pig-ignorant-and-proud-of-it; but if you want to experience true blindered, chauvinistic provincialism, talk to an urbanite from any of the larger cities.

At least the rubes know there's stuff they don't know.  Cityfolk genuinely think they know everything.

You miss the point Lad, the polarization is being encouraged for political gain.  Because when you get down to it they don't have much else to offer. It works better to distract the populace with devisiveness then to be accountable for real soulutions and action.

This applys equally to both parties. Rubes also come equal parts to our big box. The only difference is that the Republicans were able to demostrate its grand success as a primary political strategy in our current political era since the 1980s.

Oh, fuck you, Dirckman, you're on here at least once a week with posts about liberals or city folk demonstrating that you know nothing about them but speaking from authority because you've passed through somewhere or met one.  You're like a dumb-ass tourist who fancies himself an expert on Latin America because he went to Cancun once.

And Dirkman's down! Bitch-slapped by the Dirty Jap! Will he get up again? Watch it here, on All-Star Wrestling, right after the commercial!

I'm cranky as hell because of family issues and running on 7 hours of sleep over the last two days.  People from the city deride people from the country and vice versa.  People from the US deride people from Canada.  People from Ireland look down on people from Zamibia.  It's just human nature for those of us who haven't either been forced to integrate into other societies or just naturally have a fascination for learning about others.  If you're looking for people who think they're better than you, then just go anywhere in the world besides where you come from and you'll find them with little effort.

Yes...except here.
Here, when it happens, it's entertainment!
Coming up after the break, Tojo tells all - the incest, the drugs, the horrible sacrifice he made when he was only nine years old - AND - we'll meet the uncle who took it from him! But now....heeeeeeere's Taint to tell you what drugs he's on and how his asshole's feeling tonight!

eggsactly. It is funny how both the urban liberal and the rural rightwing are so sure that their brand of disdain is superior. Without any shadow of a doubt and in exactly the same way.

God I love this country.

I do feel sympathy for the many urban conservatives and rural liberals I know. Some times they sound like they are having a schizo inferiority complex just trying to fit into the pigeonholes the political class has allotted them to conform to.

Ah yes, but there is hope. My 83-year-old grandmother, always a polite racist (she has tin signs up in her house advertising pickaninny watermelons or some such shit), is proudly declaring her support for Obama these days. She was a blue dog to be sure, and leaned Democrat for years, but still we wondered what the hell she would do in this election. I'm pleased to say that she made the leap and is now living in the gray. All this in good ole corn-growing, ethanol brewing, steel-milling, cow-sheep-pig-farming northern Indiana (can I get a shout-out????).

Sorry I wasn't around to reply earlier, I was passed out drunk within minutes of making that post....  Since I'm still hung over and unable to come up with a suitable retort to tojo I'll just call him a douchebag...  That's always a good one, perhaps after a hearty breakfast and a pot of coffee I'll be a little more with it to continue the conversation....

Uh oh - Dirckman is down on the canvas again - the Ginzu Groin Grinder has left him struggling for oxygen. And the referee is down on his knees - looks like Dirckman's being counted out -
ONE...
TWO...
THREE...
