The main reason the 80's sucked was the Reagans, period.

Think of what is happening around you now with the country.  It may be a leap for you.

The 80s.... Went to a small bay side pub.  There was a well dressed dandy in front of me.  For some reason I don't recall, we struck up a conversation.  In just so many words he said "greed is good".  It was to be only the same narrative for the next 25 years.  A gift of the Reagan's, greed and materialism, dressed up in an imperial presidency.

I have to agree with Dusty.  The Rayguns sucked and cast a pall over the Eighties.  Much of the music of that era was depressing and/or nihilistic because of the assraping the world was receiving from people like Raygun and Thatcher.

Living in Thatcherite Britain and then In Raygun Amerika... I got to drink the wine of both of these rather sour vintages.

I loved the Smiths, and Morrissey. Meat is Murder is a crappy track. It's easy to point to it as their "seminal work" and dismiss all else they did in the 80s, but I still like them, and most 80s music (excepting Whitesnake and Journey) and will not be dissuaded by so petty an assault as this.
