By has-been feminist writer Erica Jong:

""If Obama loses it will spark the second American Civil War. Blood will run in the streets, believe me. And it's not a coincidence that President Bush recalled soldiers from Iraq for Dick Cheney to lead against American citizens in the streets.""

Yesterday, Jane Fonda sent me an email to tell me that she cried all night and can't cure her ailing back for all the stress that has reduces her to a bundle of nerves."

Yay for our long tradition of peaceful transition...maybe San Francisco will secede.  Barney Frank will be so upset, he'll have sex with an actual woman in protest.

Actually, I'd go for an independent city-state of San Francisco. I've never been particularly fond of California. We could be like Singapore, but without the OCD.

I'm hoping that McCain wins solely to start some race riot...  I think that would makes some good High Street topics and discussion points....  What we really need in America now is looting and riots and that hasn't happened since the days of O.J. and Rodney King...

You keep assuming nothing negative would happen if Obama loses.

So, you predicted, when the Detroit Pistons won the NBA championship that the Detroit locals were going to burn stores and flip and burn cars in the streets? I'm sorry, but I'd believe this election is considerably more important to folks than the Rodney King verdict was not so long ago.

Of course, only an idiot would threaten another civil war over an election, but it's not a far stretch to see some sporadic rioting.

Seems to me the left is putting out the old "if you don't vote for our guy we'll start a war that killed well over a half million people" routine. Nothing surprises me from the left. At least they have finally proven the media has been pushing one presidential candidate, for the duration of the election, over the other candidate.

It's like, "hey we fixed this game a long time ago, if you beat us after all this then we're going to have to kill  you all till we get a majority". Sure sounds left-thinking to me. They do this in Africa all the time. If one group can't get along with another, then one group kills every single man, woman and child in the other group. I guess they call it 'genocide' or something like that. Sounds like that is what the extreme leftists have in mind for the right if their election doesn't pay off the way it is supposed to.

What a shame.

You are not alone Ptah. Commentators are stunned, just stunned, by the behavoir of the hooligans on Broad street after the Phillies took the series. The commentators think this predictor does not bode well for what will happen if Obama loses. Or even if he wins.

After two years of "We're not racist, we just don't like Barack Obama" and subtle hints, they've finally realized that subtlety is lost the average potential McCain supporter and are falling back on "the nigroes will drive around in packs and inflict violence on you and your family" as the latest meme.

Are you saying that the election has only been going on for two months, or in your glee to post that did you forget to actually read the article?

Let me offer two alternate theories that might have contributed to the study's findings.

Theory A:  McCain has performed public blunder after blunder and tried several "Hail Mary" plays that weren't successful  while Obama's campaign has been stable and his popularity has been rising everywhere.
Theory B:  McCain made a 180 from courting the press to openly deriding them at every possible opportunity.

[Marge Gunderson] Gee, by golly, I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on the A or the B there Tojo. 'Cause I mean, now don't get snippy with me, how do you know? [/Marge Gunderson]

'Cause, you betcha it is clearly the fault of the media denying Palin her first amendment rights. How can such a thing happen in America?

"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

However she feels about the way her story has been told in the press, Palin told WMAL she is not discouraged.

"It's sort of perplexing to me, because I'm a practical person and plainspoken also, but just cutting to the chase and calling things like I see them, just like most Americans.  But this has not left a bitter taste in my mouth, the bitter shots taken by the mainstream media and by some of the elitism there in Washington," Palin said.

"What this has left me with is a very energized and positive feeling about America, because there are enough Americans who are desiring the positive change that John McCain's gonna usher in."

Plante then suggested that in her next sit-down interview, Palin should tap the reporter on the knee and ask, "So who you votin' for?"

Palin laughed and said, "Yeah, maybe that just would say it all."

"I'm gonna try that," she said.

I wonder what penalties she supposes apply for such an egregious violation of her constitutional rights. Federal statute on hate crimes? Mandatory minimum sentencing guidlines for convictions under the civil rights act? Reparations and punative damages?

We all crave disaster though, whether it be riots, hurricanes, earthquakes, or tsunamis.  The main thing for most people is it has to be a considerable enough distance away from them to enjoy the carnage on TV, while not effecting their day to day life, or driving any of their prices up.  I'll admit, if there is a meteorite that hits Tibet and kills scores of harmless peace loving people, I'd feel remotely bad, but I'd be glued to the TV for days to see the latest video and pictures of the devastation quietly hoping to myself that the deathtoll goes up to make it the most costly disaster in lives in Earth's history.

Irony is not necessarily tragic.  Larry Craig getting caught in a bathroom is not a tragedy; it's poetic justice.  A guy being forced to marry a goat because he fucked it is irony.  A women who takes her 3-year-old to make a pedi-porno is not funny to me, nor African guys who rape virgins because they think it prevents AIDS.

In fact, I've never seen George Orr, Sofie, or several others ever take any delight in grand-scale human tragedy.  They, like me, seem to lean more towards the "people are idiots" angle.

Most of my posts lately have been political, where the only thing getting hurt is someone's feelings.

We all have our personal level of tolerance and I still contend that Forti, in his original post, was a fucking idiot because he made a grand pronouncement as if it were fact, when it can't be further from the truth.

Yeah!  What she said!!

So, HKG claims her and the rest of her chick posse are appalled by the pure human nature of folks being facinated with accidents or natural disasters or violent civil unrest? I claim b.s. to all of this. I know plenty of folk who watched 24/7 news over Katrina or the Tsunami just out of a pure facination with nature. Plenty of women, too. HKG claims she didn't watch this on the news. Her latter post (above) claims that all the chicks in the house agree with her (and even Em, a pseudo-chick pipes in and thows in his/her hat in the Orr-Sophie-kickergirl ring).

All B.S. she "doth protest too much", methinks. I bet she slows traffic every time there is a cop light. I bet she has seen every episode of E.R. (George and Em, too, on that one, maybe Sophie, too). All of them have seen "The Day After Tomorrow" and 1/2 of them have seen the South Park version "Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow".

You're full of the doo-doo, HKG.

Well said, Fib... You simply vocalized what a vast majority of folk think. To even hear someone dispute it is funny.

If mom had the 3 year old using a strap-on to peg a clown, I might find that funny. But only if the 3 year old were lauging.

If pain and death aren't funny than we're all going to be disappointed.  Human folly is preventable. We differ in our views of what is tragic.

That's exactly my point.  While I find many of the Darwin award winners funny, there's a long list of high-street postings that I don't find funny, and some that I even find stomach-turning.  I don't bitch and complain about them, I just move on, as I like the forum just the way it is.  But I think it's silly to say that we all post here because we revel in human tragedy.  It's just not the case.

I never claimed anyone agreed with me.  I just gave examples of posters that don't seem obsessed with human tragedy.

Watching Katrina coverage of the tsumani coverage because you are fascinated with the awesome power of nature is not the same as watching it because you want to see the body count rise.

I hate E.R.  I watched a few episodes the first two seasons because I was married to a doctor at the time and they had an E.R. happy hour.  Maybe I don't find it funny because I've had to read through people's medical records for cases, and I know how completely fucking awful doctors, nurses and the healhcare system can be.  I don't watch any medical related shows...not even Scrubs.

I've never seen "The Day After Tomorrow."

If you get off on tragedy, that's fine, but as I said, I hate when people try to rationalize their behavior by saying that everyone thinks the same way.

I once watched a documentary on swingers, and what struck me was how every couple contended that they were only doing what others wished they had the guts to do...or the gay male friend I had who thought every straight guy would take it up the ass if given the right circumstances.  Get out of your own head and realize that people are individuals.  It's not that difficult.

HKG - for god's sake...don't waste your breath. The issue is so obvious that you can assume one of two things: either you're being trolled; or the people you're addressing are a bunch of fucking id...wait a sec...hmmm...never mind. Carry on.
