[Massachusetts] Voters yesterday overwhelmingly approved a ballot initiative to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana, making getting caught with less than an ounce of pot punishable by a civil fine of $100.

I know, I know, baby steps in the right direction, but howsabout now is the right time to legalize, regulate and tax. I know many of farmers that would love to grow a cash crop and I know of a country that would love to find a fresh renewable tax source. This alone could solve many economic issues, fuel issues, healthcare issues (e.g., pain management) and, of course,{puffpuffpass} anger issues. Thanks Choad! I needed that....Mmmmmm breakfast...

*long draw*
You'd think the agricultural lobbies would be all over this. Aside from the obvious cash crop potential, fuckin' food sales will go through the roof.
Fuck I need some bacon and eggs.

I've been up all night smoking purple kush mixed with regular kush, cherry, grapefruit and a hint of bubble hash. Enough to get arrested for, even in Massa...chew...thingy.... But yeah - I'll take a hit. I'll even bogart that joint, my friend. Pigs should smoke reefer before each shift, by law, but here's hoping they never legalize weed for commerical farming. Growing pot should never belong to big agriculture, and under das kapitalism, everything leads to consolidationalism, mono-culturizationalism, and/or monopolizationalismizing. Which is bad, mmkay?

Yeah, yeah, I know. Almost word for word, that was my first editorial for a dead tree altweekly I launched 32 years ago.

We're having enough problems simply trying to implement the "baby-steps."

Arizona's current medical marijuana law -- which voters approved by a nearly two to one margin in November -- permits doctors to prescribe marijuana to seriously ill patients if two licensed physicians agree on the use and offer supporting research.
Arizona's new measure will delay indefinitely a doctor's ability to prescribe marijuana by mandating that the drug first be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Proponents note that this process could take years.
"This is the ultimate act of political arrogance by the legislature," said Sam Vagenas, campaign coordinator for Proposition 200. "It is a callous disregard of the will of the voters."

Heard two announcements on cable/broadcast news about legalizing Medical Marijuana but nada about the news in MA which from my position is closer to legalization. No accounting for the media.

My gray haired mother, who has never been a toker, and never asks about the habits of her grown children, voted for decriminalization in MA. Along with her conservative friends on the island. As if that wasn't enough to blow my mind she asked last night if her mad national flower judging skilz could be useful if she decided to earn some extra retiree income growing legalized mary jane.
I think her experiences with running hospcie care has changed her view to activism.
She brightened up with hope for the first time since she watched a large portion of her retirement savings sink in value when I explained the economics and profit potential of growing legal pot in a medical marijuana state. She had no idea that she wouldn't need a comercial farming operation to turn her barn garage into something an older but active master gardner could manage.

It was very strange. I had this happen a few years back. A night of tossing and turning, and tunnel like (very similar to opiate) dreams/mares. A bit dull on the edges, no headache, and a desire for a bit more. heh.

Not to mention depriving both foreign and domestic terrorist organizations of funding.
Legalize, regulate and tax.

I would love to have the MJ on the legal-intoxicant stage. But I hope they figure a way to make it super stinky because I want to know when I am dealing with a toker. After all, would you let your dentist operate stoned?

Let's hope the voters have a long enough memory span to vote every one of those assholes out of office.

When legalization finally happens, cannabis will replace tomatoes as America’s favorite backyard crop.
