Yeah, I'm imagining she will do the conservative talk radio circuit trashing the party and bitching about how McCain was too liberal. She's a perfect tool for these guys because she's an attention whore with low intelligence and an insatiable ego.
I loved the fact that McCain ignored her after the concession speech. You can tell he hates her fucking guts.

Palin revisited. Fear we will see her in the Senate soon. Looks like Stevens may be reelected and I'm thinking she will appoint herself Senator when he is ousted by his peers.

Chris Wallace on Fox just said that he has now been released from confidentiality agreements with his McCain campaign sources and the story can now be told. He said that the animosity between McCain staffers and Palin was tremendous. The two camps went to war with each other in the last month. McCain was aware of it and had authorized firings of key staffers, but recinded the decision because he did not want them to take revenge by going public.

I'm hoping Palin does take the helm of the party, dividing it so profoundly that moderates and small 'c' conservatives finally abandon it, and move toward forming a honest-to-god conservative party, thereby dividing the right.

I would love a conservative party separate from the Christian Right; although I would hope to see the democrats follow suit and cut loose from the extremist liberals. The age old populist party has turned into the vegan/gay rights party and no longer gives a damn about the common citizen.

Palin "Shopping Spree" Bigger Than Reported
In a new election edition, Newsweek reports that Gov. Sarah Palin's "shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy."
"One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family -- clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill."
"Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent 'tens of thousands' more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide ... said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books."

McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

The Repubs knew they could not win even before signing Palin onto the VP part of the ticket. I think we'll find that she knew something and this(her being on the ticket) was a kind of "hush money"
I also know she isn't really bright but, Her huge interview failure with Couric and others I feel was staged by Rove just so in the debate, everyone expected her to totally fuck up. Joe Biden is a top notch debator. By not going on a tangent about the weird shit she believes, she did better than anyone expected.
I loved it when someone said before the debate "Sarah Barracuda, get ready to meet Joey the Shark"

That part of the equation is already happening. The Democratic party of today is much closer to center than the pre-Clinton party--they wouldn't have won the day yesterday if they were as hippy-dippy-lefty as you seen to want to paint them.
And if those few sane Republicans who still remain don't or can't wrest control back from the Rapture-rabid crazies, moderate conservatives will align with the Dems. We could be looking at a major political power shift, here. I can see the GOP becoming the party of crazies and being marginalized, the Democrats becoming the "conservative" party and a new party taking form to the left of them.

It's been attempted fairly recently, in - surprise! - Alaska. Several years ago, Ray Metcalfe, an Alaskan politico known more by reputation than by actual political work, attempted to form the Republican Moderate Party, to separate the small "c" conservatives from the raving, right-wing fuckheads. I was one of many Democrats who voted for the party to lend it support and to, we hoped, drive a wedge into the Republican Party. It didn't take, alas.

"I would love a conservative party separate from the Christian Right."
I'm having the hopeful thought this would be impossible because both are founded on a perversion of Social Darwinism, the main difference between the two camps being the Christian Fundamentalists..... and btw, I take the use of Christian here to be a perversion. What is being discussed is religiosity, not Chritianity. So, to restate, the religiousity minded Fundamentalists dropped the science part of Social Darwinism while the Conservatives kept science.
I don't see the Conservative party coming back for a time. The country needs government. And we need pragmatism. Without the lobbyists. Wonder if we can reach a consensus on that.

Palin was apparently a nightmare for her campaign staff to deal with. She refused preparation help for her interview with Katie Couric and then blamed her staff, specifically Nicole Wallace, when the interview was panned as a disaster. After the Couric interview, Fox News reported, Palin turned nasty with her staff and began to accuse them of mishandling her. Palin would view press clippings of herself in the morning and throw "tantrums" over the negative coverage. There were times when she would be so nasty and angry that her staff was reduced to tears.
This reminds me of something Taint wroe about his experience observing Palin up close when she was mayor. He mentioned that she had to first learn a politicians or managers skills at reacting appropriatly and controlling her emotions when speaking to and dealing with opposition.
I guess she is just a slow learner. Unlike those smartypants elites in Washington.

I see this as being far more likely than a split of the populist & liberal democrats. It's fairly common world-wide to have a conservative party, a christian party and a mob of smaller liberal parties.
While I'm all in favor of pragmatism it doesn't happy often in politics, and hoping that either party stops falling sway to the lobbyists is highly unlikely. Government does not exist on any scale without some form of lobbying.

Palin- A “small, evidently bitter type of person”
From her private troopergate emails to joking quips in campaign interviews I have noticed that the first word out of Palin's mouth at the hint of criticism is that she demands names.
"Don't make us add you to our list."
"Look," the guy says, becoming irritated on top of being arrogant, "Senator McCain cannot step out and defend Palin every single time someone says something bad about her."
"Can he do it once?"

I just like that they're scapegoating her for the loss. She has no political future. Forget 2012. Whether she crams every day between now and then, she's still not a viable candidate for ANY party. But who knows how liberal Obama will appear to be. There will be a groundswell of vitriolic neocons begging for their time back in the sun (and out from under the big rock we just dropped on their heads).

I remember being taken to Saks for maternity clothes many years ago, and even then just a shirt could easily be $400.00. I grabbed my mother-in-law by the elbow and steered us to Motherhood Maternity instead.
I still give her shit over it. I almost peed my pants when I saw their prices.
